\nWhen we were stolen away
\nWe ended up in NAURU
\nNot as we thought Norway
\nFar across the sea
\nWhere enchanted mountains
\nRose
\nBeautifully into the sky
\nHoping they would pose<\/p>\n
Freedom from oppression
\nBut it was not to be
\nWe were shipped to Nauru
\nWhere nobody wanted Me
\nI remember it was awful
\nTropical as well
\nReally hot and stuffy
\nJust another hell<\/p>\n
Sent to a detention centre
\nWhere we died inside
\nThree years in that awful camp
\nNobody denied
\nHow resilient we had to be
\nIn what was venality
\na total lack of principle
\nAnd insincerity<\/p>\n
Our names were just boat numbers
\nLike criminals we were
\nChecked with metal detectors
\nIt all became a slur
\nOf humanity personified
\nExpressions of such fear
\nDespite being so confident
\nIt soon became quite clear<\/p>\n
Being enthusiastic
\nWanting to learn a lot
\nTrying to be positive
\nWith everything you got
\nThe detention centre
\nBasically took all hope away
\nDespite us being focused
\nWe were all made to pay<\/p>\n
Save the children
\nTheir red tops
\nGave us lots of care
\nBut when the British changed all that
\nWe became aware
\nThey were out to harm us
\nClose the school and make
\nUs wander through depression
\nWe also self harmed too
\nAnd Now awake<\/p>\n
To what was the possiblity
\nThat we never could return.
\nTo Australia place of our birth
\nRapidly we did learn
\nWe would stay in Nauru
\nOur resettlement no more
\nMany of us wanted out
\nSuicide for sure<\/p>\n
Looking back on the school there
\nThe red rose cafe where
\nWe all pretended we were doing business
\nAnd ofcourse the care
\nwe got
\nWas quite remarkable
\nBut after they closed down
\nThe place we all had come to love
\nOur spirits soon did drown<\/p>\n
The toilets were all dirty
\nNot like they were before
\nGirls smeared poop around the walls
\nNobody could ignore
\nThe changes they were everywhere
\nOur lives sunk to a low
\nEbb we just were powerless
\nAnd didnt want to know<\/p>\n
The Naureans became unfriendly
\nThey shouted hate words they
\nWere always wanting to fight us
\nAnd tell us to go away
\nSome attacked us with machetes
\nA boy took me aside
\nHe attacked me in the toilets
\nAnd then just upped and lied<\/p>\n
AUstralia had been awful
\nBecause we were not born white
\nMany committed suicide
\nAnd that was never right
\nAmnesty international tried to help us
\nBut they
\nDidnt really help us
\nat the butt end of each day<\/p>\n
Our lives were basically over
\nWe were dumped our lives no more
\nWhat Australia did to us
\nWe never could ignore
\nThey left us in such danger
\nAnd most girls here became
\nBroken hearted and traumatised
\nWith nobody to blame<\/p>\n
We sewed our lips together
\nAnd went within ourselves
\nEmotionally degraded
\nWhere the spririt delves
\nNobody can ever
\nCome back from this pain
\nNo child protection set up
\nOur sanity invain<\/p>\n
Abandoned and distraught we were
\nRealising we
\nWere not of the right coloured skin
\nAnd thus just couldnt be
\nPart of that Australia
\nWho we imagined we
\nCould become part of
\nAnd just gave up
\nReluctantly<\/p>\n
And we hear that they are sorry
\nAnd the rules they put in place
\nSplit up loving families
\nHow it was such a disgrace
\nBlacks were not worth saving
\nThey had no feelings they
\nHad no place in AUstralia
\nWhere they were sent they would
\nHave to stay.<\/p>\n
