\nAll this is true<\/p>\n
There were once
\nUp to 200,000 alive
\nIn every ocean
\nThey did survive
\nNow perhaps 1500 to two thousand and five
\nImmense dinosaurian
\nAnd now they strive<\/p>\n
To live where they can
\nAnd a number appear
\nTo be off Sri Lanka
\nAnd its very clear
\nIn those deep troughs and canyons
\nOut there
\nThese stupendous beasts
\nAre Managing to share<\/p>\n
Near Batticaloa
\nSubmarine canyons
\nSeem to provide
\nEnough Krill
\n40 million is their requirement
\nEach day
\nAnd it would appear
\nEnoughs there
\nAnd they stay<\/p>\n
Sri lanka’s civil war
\nRaged through the land
\nProviding a sanctuary
\nI understand
\nWhilst this was raging
\nThe whales peacefully
\nGot on with existing
\nAnd just being free<\/p>\n
Human intervention
\nThe whalers
\nSuch grief
\nSuch intolerable agony
\nSo some relief
\nJapan in its roguish
\nAnd ignorant way
\nIs still killing whales
\nEven today<\/p>\n
Norway and Iceland
\nThey kill whales too
\nAnd collisions with ships
\nHappen, they do
\nThe Blues are the largest
\nWhale ever to be
\nSwimming great mountains
\nOf flesh actually<\/p>\n
A penis for eight to at least
\n10 foot
\nA heart weighing 400 kilos
\nWhen put
\nLike this
\nIts length 100 feet
\nWeighing 140 tons
\nNothing can compete<\/p>\n
Can reach 30 miles per hour
\nAveraging twelve
\nIts tongue weighing in
\nAnd you dont have to delve
\nFar to find out
\nThat they weigh some 3 ton
\nAnd thats what its about<\/p>\n
These giants are out there
\nAt about 5Ofeet
\nBelow the surface
\nHaving to compete
\nWith our vast great tankers
\nAnd great ships that ply
\nThe shipping routes now
\nWhere collisions are high<\/p>\n
So remember Sri Lanka
\nIs gifted and they
\nAre seeing a lot and man unkind’s way
\nIs all about profit and making a buck
\nAnd now we see whale watching
\nWhose pushing their luck?<\/p>\n
Tourism growing all sorts of boats
\nBlue whales are timid
\nNow if a boat floats
\nSome one will go out
\nAnd get much too near
\nAnd cause these whales stress
\nAgitation and fear<\/p>\n
Despite their great size
\nThey are gentle and they
\nSerenely enjoy the sunlight
\nThe way
\nthey breathe
\nThrough their column spouts
\nAnd go below
\nIs gentle and thoughtful
\nAnd part of their glow<\/p>\n
Perfectly streamlined
\nA beautiful hue
\nThese are living mountains
\nTheir dimension on view
\nIt does take ones breath away
\nThey are immense
\nBut graceful about it
\nTheir aura intense<\/p>\n
An unfathomable spirit
\nAn emotional sense
\nThey inspire empathy
\nThey are soulful and hence
\nCan overwhelm us with their lyrical glee
\nLeaving us breathless
\nAnd eager to be<\/p>\n
Closer and closer
\nTo their pulsating power
\nThey arouse and excite
\nThey are vocal and how
\nEvocative truly
\nRight off the scale
\nStately and dignified
\nThat enormous tail
\nOr fluke does unsettle
\nIt magically goes
\nInto the depths
\nWorthy of fine prose<\/p>\n
There is a calmness
\nSurrounding the Blue
\nSuch poise and self-control
\nIt feels so true
\nSo much long suffering
\nWith Hunting before
\nBut clearly now stoic
\nUnmoved and sure<\/p>\n
Very intuitive
\nAnd sociable they
\nSeemingly sense
\nIn a wonderful way
\nWhether its safe
\nTo surface close by
\nThose who would watch them
\nAnd who would rely<\/p>\n
On them as extraordinary
\nAnd incredible too
\nThey clearly are curious
\nIn what they do
\nBut their great size is baffling
\nI do have to say
\nThat It may move you to tears
\nIn a beautiful way<\/p>\n
Which is why i might question
\nThe whalers of old
\nAnd the present day scum bags
\nWho still remain sold
\nOn hunting great whales
\nAnd watching them die
\nWithout seeing their courage
\nGreat knights Who belie
\nTheir grandness their heavenly
\nAura and grace
\nBut with the exploding
\nHarpoons in their face<\/p>\n
Such squalor such evil
\nA nation of lies
\nWho talk up research
\nBut do not realise
\nWe know the game that they
\nPlay man for man
\nWe know the evil
\nThat is JAPAN<\/p>\n
The minke’s are suffering
\nSuch a heartache
\nIn the Southern Ocean
\nAll the rules they break
\nA sanctuary there
\nTurned into purgatory
\nAnd such desolation
\nAnd woe actually<\/p>\n
The Blue Whale now thankfully
\nSeemingly should
\nOff the island of Sri Lanka
\nFeel that they could
\nRemain in those canyons
\nWhere so much rich krill
\nIs present all year
\nWhere they can have their fill<\/p>\n
Where their children can be safe
\nJust to live on cloud nine
\nThe isle of the blessed
\nWhere the old sun does shine
\nMore understanding of the Blue whale
\nAnd a mutual respect
