To those carnivores of Vietnam
\nand Laos
\nI have a word to
\ntouch what heart is left
\ndogs now being stolen
\nfrom houses in Thailand
\nchildren crying outwardly bereft
\nof their dear pet
\npicked up by the collection
\ngangs
\nwho search the city streets
\nand when they can
\nthey steal a little dog
\nperhaps a bigger dog
\npossibly you do not feel
\nthose pangs
\nas their hooked up and their hurt,
\nyou hear that dreadful squeal
\nit curdles blood just hearing it
\nanyone who can feel
\nits afterall a pet
\nits been lying in some garden
\nits little life was set
\nbut now its in some rotten truck
\nwith sullen faced, devils who
\nhavent felt emotional for a long time
\nvery few
\npeople in this kind of job
\nhave the will to be
\nloving to the innocent,
\nits so true, tragically
\nthe best dogs, are shipped off to Vietnam
\nto be force fed
\nthe mongrels and the poor old waifs
\nand strays are killed
\nsoon dead
\nand sold in local markets
\nfor the thai people to eat
\nthe pedigree’s are shipped across
\nthe Meakong, those elite
\nstill face a harrowing journey
\nwith evil all the way
\ntrading in the innocent is sinful
\nfor they pay
\nhigh prices for their fur and meat
\nand will torture them and make
\ntheir little lives a misery
\nits the terror road they take
\nand of course their little eyes
\nsearch ours
\nhopeful, we can save
\ntheir little lives but truthfully
\nthey die without a grave
\njust a heap of bones
\npicked of the flesh
\nand tossed away
\njust a heap of memories
