Many types of animals
\nFrom cougars and wolverines
\nGrizzlies, wolves and bears and foxes
\nAnd substantially more
\nBeautiful big eagles
\nAnd all are in the raw<\/p>\n
To be a moose the biggest
\nOf the deers upon this earth
\nUp to a thousand pounds in weight
\nWith really so much worth
\nEach animal residing is valuable
\nAnd they
\nAdd to the environment
\nIn their natural creative way<\/p>\n
It is a rugged area
\nTall straight trees that grow
\nTogether roots all hugging
\nOften hit by snow
\nIts a magickal picture post card place
\nA wilderness to where
\nWatching a moose and her calf live
\nOut their lives now I share<\/p>\n
There are frantic climbing mists
\nThat hang and descend from the sky
\nGlaciers of vivid blue and white
\nFrom ice fields rather high
\nWondrous lakes and waterfalls
\nAnd great masses of snow
\nIts when the moose find difficulty
\nFor not many plants then grow<\/p>\n
Twig ends bark and conifers
\nA great deal of them they
\nNeed from 15 to 50 kilos
\nEvery single day
\nThat calls for hours of foraging
\nUp to ten miles a day
\nYou can realise how exhausted
\nThey get and how they pay<\/p>\n
Attention to their whereabouts
\nIn July when snows are gone
\nThey are competant nutritionists
\nAnd ofcourse walk on and on
\nThey love the lakes
\nWhere evolution has given them
\nA need
\nTo dive into the depths and eat
\nThe rich nutritional weed<\/p>\n
A favourite yellow lily
\nAnd horsetails and bladderworts
\nAll are high in sodium
\nClearly these true thoughts
\nOf building up their minerals
\nIs always on their mind
\nThey can close their nostrils and dive
\nDown deep
\nThose precious weeds to find<\/p>\n
A mother loves her baby
\nAnd nurtures it all day
\nIt will be with her each hour
\nAnd for a year may stay
\nLearning all the magick
\nThe plant life and much more
\nHow to stay away from wolves and bears
\nAnd stay in awe<\/p>\n
Of all of mothers knowledge
\nThere is so much to learn
\nWhich plants give the best return
\nFor effort, to discern
\nShe will follow her mother
\nAnd absorb saliva she
\nPasses on her bacteria
\nTo keep her stay healthy<\/p>\n
They have big ears to hear with
\nAnd camouflage as well
\nThat hides them very effectively
\nIts like a magic spell
\nIn all that heavy undergrowth
\nThe colours changing fast
\nEverything feels connected
\nAnd feels made to last<\/p>\n
Following this family
\nOne can feel the need
\nEvery hour sees a learning curve
\nFor babies must succeed
\nThey have to watch their mother
\nThey have stay close and
\nLearn to be adaptable
\nTo the ever changing land<\/p>\n
With packs of wolves
\nOut hunting
\nAnd with other predators too
\nIn deep snow it gets tiring
\nIts what they all now do
\nWatch out for the aggressive Bulls
\nWho come to make a point
\n1200 pounds of muscle
\nAnd their spirit to annoint<\/p>\n
Bulls when after females
\nHave a curiously wild sound
\nThey do get quite frustrated
\nThey are pound for pound
\nMuch heavier than the females
\nAnd can be aggressive too
\nAnd if there is a calf around
\nOne swipe and toodle loo<\/p>\n
Often moose will come onto the road
\nAnd lick parked cars
\nAfter the sodium that they eneed
\nTo face up to the stars
\nIt can be an intense period
\nAs the males are challenged by
\nTheir massive sexual urges
\nWhich is iften why<\/p>\n
The females stay away from them
\nTry to compensate
\nForage its a constant need
\nTo try to fill their plate
\nWhen they are on heat
\nThey will decide the male they want around
\nNoticing their huge racks
\nAnd their scent and sound<\/p>\n
After mating what you find
\nIs their calf will have to go
\nShe will not be as loving
\nInfact will tey to show
\nAnother side of her to calves
\nLet them actually know
\nTHat calfdom yes its over
\nAnd therefore they must go<\/p>\n
This is life in Jasper
\nTheir child must walk away
\nNo more milk or knowledge
\nOn their own from today
\nAnd so they take their presence
\nAnd wander off to find
\nA new path of existence
\nUsing their own mind<\/p>\n
They are part of the order
\nOf things the harmony
\nThey must take thec initiative
\nIn the forefront they must be
\nHarping on their memories
\nAnd gathering anew
\nFellowship and learning
\nIn everything they do<\/p>\n
Understanding the seasons
\nThe unfathomable where they
\nKnow where to find the freshest shoots
\nIn the cool of the day
\nWhere they do feel threatened
\nIn the gloaming of each day
\nAnd sometimes in the witching hour
\nWhen they will maybe lay<\/p>\n
Noticing the howling
\nAnd the hot breaths on the ear
\nThe timber wolves a singing out
\nTheir voices loud and clear
\nThis a time to slink into the tall grass
\nAnd to be
\nGoing back to basics
