{"id":34844,"date":"2017-11-28T13:12:19","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T13:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=34844"},"modified":"2017-11-28T13:12:19","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T13:12:19","slug":"stonehenge-and-its-mysteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/11\/stonehenge-and-its-mysteries\/","title":{"rendered":"Stonehenge and its mysteries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A succession of people<br \/>\nDevided in time<br \/>\nLook back on this monument<br \/>\nMost in their prime<br \/>\nConsider the theories<br \/>\nwarranting thought<br \/>\nTheir energies meaningful<br \/>\nAnd clearly sought<\/p>\n<p>They stare at prehistory&#8217;s<br \/>\nWorkings and feel<br \/>\nHow has it happened<br \/>\nNo one had the wheel<br \/>\nRevealing this fact<br \/>\nHow could stones<br \/>\nEver be<br \/>\nMoved and erected<br \/>\nSo perfectly<\/p>\n<p>Great Sand stone sarsens<br \/>\nAnd blue stones were used<br \/>\nHow did they do that<br \/>\nMost have refused<br \/>\nTo admit to themselves<br \/>\nIt would be hard today<br \/>\nSo how did they actually<br \/>\nWork out a way<\/p>\n<p>And why on a chalk plain<br \/>\nNear Salisbury it seems<br \/>\nThe ditch and the bank<br \/>\nThe alignment whose dreams<br \/>\nWorked all this out<br \/>\nAt the end of the day<br \/>\nWhat was its purpose<br \/>\nBut fewer woukd say<\/p>\n<p>Mark Parker Pearson<br \/>\nWas right up to date<br \/>\nFrom London Uni<br \/>\nAnd he couldnt wait<br \/>\nHe wanted to examine<br \/>\nThe cremated bones<br \/>\nThat Hawley reburied<br \/>\nFor all the unknowns<\/p>\n<p>He was convinced<br \/>\nTechnology could<br \/>\nanswer those questions<br \/>\nStill midunderstood<\/p>\n<p>He  wanted to see<br \/>\nOr try to find out<br \/>\nWho built all this<br \/>\nAnd what was it about<\/p>\n<p>They were under a plaque<br \/>\nIn a pit In the ground<br \/>\nAnd duly got permission<br \/>\nAnd of course when he found<br \/>\nHawleys ancient bone fragments<br \/>\nJust in a hole<br \/>\nHe cursed for a moment<br \/>\nBut knew that his role<\/p>\n<p>Was to examine these fragments<br \/>\nAnd work out who they<br \/>\nWere everyone at the end of the day<br \/>\nFurther examination of the pit<br \/>\nFound crushing of chalk<br \/>\nWhere something might sit<br \/>\nIt turned out to  be the presili blue<br \/>\nStones that were here first<br \/>\nA ring good and true<\/p>\n<p>So originally there had been<br \/>\nA blue stone ring<br \/>\nIt was later the sarsen<br \/>\nStones people did bring<br \/>\nAnd they were erected<br \/>\nStone henge had begun<br \/>\nWith its solstice alignments<br \/>\nTo the midwinter sun<\/p>\n<p>Some 50,000 fragments of bone<br \/>\nAll sorts a great mix<br \/>\nHow could he have known<br \/>\nUndaunted they took them all back yo the lab<br \/>\nAnd examined them carefully<br \/>\nThere on the slab<\/p>\n<p>Ear bones and skull parts<br \/>\nWere identified<br \/>\nCat scanning some of them<br \/>\nIt was discovered they were<br \/>\nMale and female <\/p>\n<p>In real terms, the green<br \/>\nPlain and the ruins<br \/>\nAnd he recalled<br \/>\nWilliam Hawley the cremated bones<br \/>\nThat were hauled<br \/>\nInto sandbags and buried<br \/>\nUnder a plaque<br \/>\nSo his team decided<br \/>\nTo get them back<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A succession of people Devided in time Look back on this monument Most in their prime Consider the theories warranting thought Their energies meaningful And clearly sought They stare at prehistory&#8217;s Workings and feel How has it happened No one &hellip;
