\nEveryday
\nBetween the land and the lake
\nProviding so much excitement
\nMore than some can take<\/p>\n
The Lions are clearly
\nUp there leading actors they
\nHave to take on crocodiles
\nWho in the water lay<\/p>\n
Hunters in the open air
\nWith babies around about
\nThe waterside is dangerous
\nAnd thats without a doubt<\/p>\n
The great Zambezi Valley
\nOne has to understand
\nThe crocodiles are champions in the water
\nBut on the land<\/p>\n
The lions are surely up to it
\nThe savannah though can be
\nAfter the rains Quite waterlogged
\nSo it can be dangerously<\/p>\n
Close to where the crocodiles
\nMay venture and be seen
\nAnd lion cubs would not stand an earthly
\nWhich does really mean<\/p>\n
They could end up in the belly
\nOf a crocodile and that
\nWould so upset the lionness
\nWho knows where she is at<\/p>\n
The children of all the species
\nFeel safer when their mum
\nOr their parents are there with them
\nIts a rule of thumb<\/p>\n
Experience and maturity
\nIs a critical desire
\nIts the difference really
\nBetween life and death
\nAnd we all can feel that fire<\/p>\n
Lions have their own problems
\nAnd fathers clearly they
\nCan change and often that can mean
\nThe end of cubs who pay<\/p>\n
A price perhaps their father
\nIs beaten in a fight
\nAnd has to leave the confines of the pride
\nThen day is night<\/p>\n
For all the cubs for they will be
\nMurdered and the male
\nWill expect to have his seed there
\nWhilst the cubs dad hits the trail<\/p>\n
It is all very uncertain
\nFor lion families it fails
\nPrides of females dependent
\nOn the powerfulness of males<\/p>\n
And cubs can just be eaten
\nThe theatre and the stage
\nAuditions and rehearsals
\nAnd amazing acts of rage<\/p>\n
It must be very troubling
\nWith out consistency
\nThings can happen overnight
\nYou dont know where you might be<\/p>\n
Its really down to timing
\nAnd the circumstances for they
\nAre what creates the narrative
\nIn the lion world everyday<\/p>\n
A dehydrated hippo cub
\nHas died upon the land
\nThe lions will want to have their fill
\nBut the crocs will give a hand<\/p>\n
And may pull the carcass into the water
\nAnd lions will not be drawn
\nIn the water they dont stand much chance
\nThey may also be torn<\/p>\n
To pieces theres no guarantee
\nThat they can get away
\nAnd so they play it cagily
\nNo extra risks today<\/p>\n
On the trees the great black vultures
\nSilhouetted against a sky
\nOf orange thus depicted
\nIn monotone and why<\/p>\n
A kind of natural graphic art
\nThe perspective very clear
\nHighlights absolutely correct
\nBranches filled with fear<\/p>\n
The lions are very hungry
\nThe impala are thirsty they
\nHave to watch for crocodiles
\nAnd lions too every day<\/p>\n
Predation every which way
\nBut what they have is speed
\nFleet of foot their so hard wired
\nAnd we know where it can lead<\/p>\n
A massive thrust and the crocdile
\nHolds on and pulls them in
\nTo the muddy waters
\nAnd then begins to spin<\/p>\n
There is no way of escaping
\nThe fight for life is lost
\nWanting to drink where crocodiles lurk
