Twelve miles west of Stornoway
\nThose megaliths stand tall
\nOnce swallowed by the ancient peat
\nWhen a farmer with a wall on his mind
\nwas searching for stones
\nAnd did unearth
\nThe signs of what they really were
\nAnd realised their worth<\/p>\n
5000 years of ancientness
\nPerhaps an observatory
\nEvery 18.6 years
\nThe moon’s trajectory
\nDances across the stones
\nIn what is an astrological jig
\nSilhoutted by the sky
\nThe isle of Lewis
\nThe outer Hebrides as I apply<\/p>\n
My mind to what is the land of fae
\nA legendary site on any day
\nAround the coasts of sand we see
\nThe seals and perhaps red deer walk free
\nThe golden eagle in the sky
\nAnd the arctic char and salmon ply
\nMullet and flounder accompany
\nThis is a place well just to be<\/p>\n
Where they still cut peat
\nAnd do realise
\nThe vikings settled
\nNo surprise
\nA norse kingdom another here
\nAn island people it is clear<\/p>\n
Three billion years this ancient ground
\nAnorthosite moon like, was found
\nTo man or beast how very old
\nThese rocks are thats what I have been told
\nNo where else in Europe can say
\nTheir rocks are more ancient
\nBy even a day
