The largest land animal living
\nPerceptive cognizant and brave
\nA pachyderm with a great stream
\nOf consciousness
\nIn Kerala whose left to save
\nWith an absence of thought
\nFor their welfare
\nIts a cultural thing maybe so
\nBut because they just are gentle giants
\nThey are taken for granted
\nAnd show<\/p>\n
Amazing resolve for the cruelty
\nExacted on them everyday
\nAbused really, for no good reason
\nBut with arrogance yes we can say
\nIt Forces them out of their wild ways
\nAnd into the service of man
\nWho clearly ignores their real needs
\nOn this planet
\nIn reality he is no fan<\/p>\n
They are abused as work horses
\nLittle attention played to
\nWants and their needs
\nThey have arduous lives
\nDisregarded and neglected all day
\nBullied really just to be bullied
\nThere’s no insight they are just made to pay<\/p>\n
Their great weight precludes them
\nFrom walking
\nOn tarmac and concrete for they
\nFind their legs will break down
\nMade to walk into town
\nDiscrimination we drown
\nThese poor souls with so much regalia
\nLook at their sores feel their pain
\nLook into the eyes of an elephant
\nAnd dont let it happen again<\/p>\n
Apparently a lack of reasoning
\nIts contentiousness which ever way
\nJust look at the way we treat elephants
\nSuch intuitive souls yet they pay
\nThe bullhooks are used without thinking
\nSophistory seemingly high
\nContrary to reason
\nThey really get beaten
\nAnd many sadly do die<\/p>\n
Religion regalia traditional gala’s
\nIts where they come into their prime
\nDressed up in fineries mounted by mahouts
\nIts happening time after time
\nUnbelievable noise and confusion
\nPanic and woeful decree
\nThese animals suffer complete purgatory
\nAs Sangita iyer could see<\/p>\n
She could feel all their pain
\nWith her lateral thought
\nWith the truest compassion
\nThat ever was sought
\nShe felt their conviction
\nShe took it all on
\nAnd discovered that cruelty
\nWas far from gone<\/p>\n
Where were the statesman
\nThe guru’s the sage
\nThis cruelty really was so hard
\nTo gauge
\nThere were sound minds
\nBut apparently we
\nSee elephants treated
\nAbominably<\/p>\n
They have expectations, we all have
\nSo why
\nAre these beautiful gods shackled
\nWe try
\nWith amnesia to blockout the truth
\nOf it all
\nWe obliterate reason
\nAnd won’t answer the call<\/p>\n
Dead eyes looking out at a world
\nWithout grace
\nWounded and battle scarred
\nLook at their face
\nJust feel what they feel
\nThe shock and the pain
\nThe cruel disappointment
\nHow life is in vain<\/p>\n
They are far seeing
\nTheir prudence immense
\nCreative and lively
\nOfcourse it makes sense
\nThat all these wild elephants
\nShould be left out
\nIn the wilderness where they belong
\nThere’s no doubt<\/p>\n
The world must affirm
\nMust express and must try
\nTo STOP poaching ivory
\nWe all must try
\nTo influence everyone
\nThat we all know
\nTo protest their abuse
\nAnd let our great wave grow<\/p>\n
Bull hooks and bloodied feet
\nBlind eyes that we
\nSee beaten mercilessly
\nIts hard to be
\nGentle and peaceful
\nWith this going on
\nThe voiceless may trumpet
\nBut they will be gone<\/p>\n
With the wind all their gracefulness
\nMelted away
\nMajestic magnificent in every way
\nThey had such rhythm and symmetry
\nBut we just ignored them
\nAnd now who can see<\/p>\n
The magnificent herds
\nWith their dramatic force
\nTheir legitimate theatre
\nStraight from their source
\nThey prompted respect
\nBut we let them down
\nOfcourse they were vulnerable
\nWe let them drown<\/p>\n
Habitat loss took away the desire
\nThe ambush the canned hunting
\nLife became dire
\nExposed to corporate peril and woe
\nThe abyss they fell into
\nAs well we know
\nThere were danger signals
\nArousals and scares
\nBut we were all too busy
\nWith our own affairs<\/p>\n
Gods do have shackles
\nThey bleed they are blind
\nThey limp and they suffer
\nWe steal their mind
\nWe must all raise our game
\nWe must all do our thing
\nLike Sangita is doing
\nOr it just will bring<\/p>\n
The great force upon us
\nExtinction will be
\nThe prize we shall win
\nFor inactivity
\nEach of us really can do it if we
\nPut the elephants first
\nBefore adversity<\/p>\n
