The spark of life
\nThat miracle
\nThe playfulness
\nThe harmlessness
\nFeathers new and powdery
\nYes i be squeaky clean
\nRiding on the conveyor belt
\nInto the toothed machine.<\/p>\n
Wide eyed a clear conscience
\nHappy to be here
\nRiding through this facility
\nFull of sun and cheer
\nHe is a male press left chute
\nShe is a female she
\nDissapears down the right chute
\nWhere i wanted to be<\/p>\n
Even at my tender age
\nThe gals are good to me
\nSo why go down the left chute
\nIt did not feel right to me
\nSo i kept on going
\nAnd the males went on their way
\nUntil they reached the big machine
\nThat mashed them might and may<\/p>\n
Hatcheries want females
\nThey lay eggs that is why
\nLife is chosen for them
\nAll males have to die
\nCrushed or suffocated
\nOr just tossed in a bin
\nThats what happens to male chicks
\nThey just can never win.<\/p>\n
Bloodthirsty and barbaric
\nOutrageous through and through
\nMalignancy and malice
\nUnforgiving of a few
\nMale chicks in their millions
\nAre made into a soup
\nTheir innocence their spirit
\nThey never reach the coop<\/p>\n
They all go through the grinder
\nBecoming slurry in a pot
\nA child would not believe this
\nAll those chicks they go
\nMurdered quickly in cold blood
\nSplit from ear to ear
\nFeathers smashed and broken
\nAnd much less time to tear<\/p>\n
To be surplus to requirements
\nA right state of affairs
\nIn a patriarchal world
\nBut apparently who dares
\nGets or so they tell me
\nThe hatchery of fire
\nWith incubators on all night
\nAnd most well we perspire<\/p>\n
All these feathers little feet
\nWings yea feathern too
\nThe conveyor belt we missed
\nThe chute
\nIn the hen house true
\nAll those hens that chuckle
\nAll those hens who fight
\nAs for me i must pretend
\nTo be a hen tonight<\/p>\n
I dont know really long
\nI get away with this charade
\nThe gals can keep me warm at night
\nAnd i can be on guard
\nJust keep a low profile
\nAnd hope i get away
\nFor if i am spooted
\nI will die churned up and made to pay<\/p>\n
Every single hatchery
\nIs doing this to males
\nCan you imagine their agony
\nAs the big teeth crush their tails
\nAnd mince their heads and bodies
\nSo much awful strife
\nThe spark of pure creation
