From tiny polyps they emerge
\nInto the ocean blue
\nBeautiful graceful beings
\nMedusozoa good and true
\nOnly one per cent survive
\nTheir strobilation stage
\nGelatinous medusa
\nBioluminescence
\nAll the rage<\/p>\n
Energy accumulates
\nFrom chemical reactions they
\nWard off or evade predation
\nIt lights up their way
\nCan be to lure or detect prey
\nOr communicate we see
\nThis miracle emission
\nAnd abundant energy<\/p>\n
For 500 million years
\nThey have swum
\nThe oceans
\nSome so deep
\nTentacles and swirling domes
\nAnd bells
\nAnd we may reap
\nThe splendour in their ballet
\nTheir flawlessness we see
\nPinnacles of perfection
\nBut still a mystery<\/p>\n
A myriad of colours
\nSome toxic by design
\nThe murk uplifts their spectre
\nEach source of light divine
\nA mantle in a night sky
\nA fireball from the mist
\nBeacons of the believable
\nThat our eyes cannot resist<\/p>\n
Combs in dark green waters
\nLake anenomes
\nHairy stingers
\nThe dangerous box
\nAnd the portuguese
\nMan o war
\nThey are out there
\nWith venom to behold
\nPlankton gulping celestials
\nWho clearly now are sold<\/p>\n
On the wonders of the ocean
\nThose beings who would chew
\nLike the leatherback
\nAnd the bold attack
\nOf the whale shark
\nAnd those who
\nHave massive understanding
\nThat the mineral rich though small
\nCan maintain the power of beings
\nWithout huge teeth
\nTo enthral<\/p>\n
In this nutrient rich soup silence
\nExist such wonders they
\nGive balance to nutrition
\nAnd great size can then play
\nOut into the being
\nThe baleen whales they know
\nThe marvellous blood rich stew of nature
