The wash of a polluted tide
\nAcross a pristine shore
\nAn ediface for multi-cultural
\nWorking class and poor<\/p>\n
Within a rich elitest
\nLocal council who just show
\nTheir arrogance and their ignorance
\nEverywhere they go<\/p>\n
Social housing
\nGives the country
\nSomething to believe
\nIt covers up the light outside
\nAnd helps all to achieve<\/p>\n
A life that each were given
\nTo attain as well we might
\nDue possibly to the colour of their skin
\nAnd their birth right
\nWhich clearly made it harder
\nAnd a tower block became where
\nEventually like drift wood
\nBobbing in the sea
\nSurfaces in North Kensington
\nIn the GRENFELL tragedy.<\/p>\n
A carbuncle on a bottom, lithe
\nand perfect soft and tanned
\nCreating a dark shadow
\nDown upon the land
\nWhere Ferrari’s and Bugatti’s
\nSpread their noxious gases wide
\nWhere Harrods and where
\nHarvey Nichol’s ostentation is denied<\/p>\n
A Tower Block from the seventies
\nLimps into the sky
\nWhere 500 or so poorer people live
\nAnd possibly die
\nMen women and children
\nMigrants maybe too
\nWho live in a community
\nAs many others do<\/p>\n
A cocktail of nationalities
\nLook down on the streets below
\nWith insufficient money
\nIntolerance can grow
\nWith austerity the winds of change
\nBlow pitilessly and can
\nSubjugate with relentless force
\nThe dreams of common man<\/p>\n
Thus from this unforgiving place
\nExtremes were seen to be
\nThe ruling class stamped down hard
\nAll felt its authority
\nIt became a continual struggle
\nFor deterioration brings
\nA wretched and a forlorn countenance
\nAnd tends to clip the wings<\/p>\n
Imagine for a moment
\nYour home is in the sky
\nThere is just one means of escape
\nA marathon on high
\nAn eight and half million upgrade
\nAlong mostly cosmetic lines
\nWhere architects and corporates
\nWork within confines<\/p>\n
Gas boilers and new windows
\nNew flats and a school
\nA boxing gym a sports area
\nIt was sold and it would call
\nUp to the many senses
\nOf the people who lived there
\nBut as the improvements got underway
\nThey came with much despair<\/p>\n
They really hadn’t been thought through
\nlots were impractical they
\nCut across fire safety standards
\nBut the residents had no say
\nThe ACM combustible
\nWith its polyethylene core
\nWas put up to improve the look
\nAnd the rest they did ignore<\/p>\n
Everything was signed off
\nAnd then one night a fire
\nA fridge blew up on a lower floor
\nAnd soon the scene was dire
\nNo access for the fireman
\nTheir equipment far too short
\nThe cladding on the exterior
\nRapidly had caught<\/p>\n
And the fire spread
\nEvery which way
\nThe tenants knew the score
\nSit tight we will rescue you
\nA mantra to ignore
\nGet out of there and quickly
\nBut ofcourse many could not
\nThe fire spread every which way
\nAnd they knew they had had their lot<\/p>\n
No extinguishers en situ
\nNo fire alarms to tell
\nNo sprinklers
\nGas pipes fitted
\nIn the means of escape
\nStair well
\nDoesn’t that sound crazy
\nAnd a raging fire outside
\nGiving off such an intense heat
\nAnd sickening cyanide<\/p>\n
Outside hoses not long enough
\nAnd leaping violent flame
\nThat took out the new windows
\nSo rapidly it came
\nAnd chunks of it slipped off
\nAnd rained down on those on the ground
\nPeople began jumping
\nIn their adversity drowned<\/p>\n
Waiting for one’s rescue
\nThat turned out to be
\nThe cladding compromised
\nThe conpartmentalisation
\nAll could see
\nAt least 160 waited to be burned
\nImagine that, with relatives
\nOutside all so concerned<\/p>\n
No high platforms for rescue
\nNo helicopters they
\nWould have been used on a forest fire
\nBut here alas no way
\nEverything was against the wholesale
\nRescue as they had said
\nThe residents had made that known
\nAnd now many were dead<\/p>\n
6 we were told a travesty
\nAnd even now to this day
\n79 the official count
\nThe community though say
\n160 and growing
\nAnd a corporate manslaughter theme
\nClearly putting the wind up some
\nPerhaps the design team!<\/p>\n
The architects the installers
\nThe council and MP’s
\nThe bloody tory government
\nWith their cuts and miserly pleas
\nTo think that they were voted back
\nDespite Jeremy’s worth
\nThe wretchedness of the system
\nWitnessed a re-birth<\/p>\n
And Mrs May’s hung parliament
\nAnd the afterflow and pain
\nAs terror struck at Grenfell
\nAnd the utter disdain
\nShe showed for the survivors
\nDid not meet face to face
\nShe became the maybot
\nSeen as a disgrace<\/p>\n
No one from the council
\nWhat a hopeless crowd
\nAs for Mrs May
\nShe has nothing to be proud
\nAbout we all could feel it
\nHer distaste for the poor
\nTo have to breathe their Co2
\nshe felt that in her craw<\/p>\n
There is no good saying sorry
\nShe blew it big time
\nThey would probably lynch her
\nIt really was a crime
\nHow she had conducted herself
\nThey realise
\nTo vote for her is a madness
\nThat those who did might realise<\/p>\n
I say might this austerity
\nThese cuts what they create
\nIs severity and an open wound
\nThat we must all conflate
\nFor this so unfair a government
\nWho sides with the banksters who
\nWill be the death of the uk
\nAs will the EU<\/p>\n
The media is biased
\nWe are doomed now to be
