The earth holds many a miracle
\nThe enduring march of time
\nThey will be present everywhere
\nWatch the buggers climb
\nFeel the ground exploding
\nAs thousands burrow clear
\nEnduring their life’s purpose
\nAnd generating fear<\/p>\n
If you happen to be sun bathing
\nOn a deck chair which felt best
\nAnd the earth begins erupting
\nIn effect its one huge nest
\nDelivering creepy crawlies
\nCicada’s by name
\nWho turn out in their millions
\nThats their only claim to fame<\/p>\n
In unison together a frantic
\nPath alive
\nIn essence they are testing
\nIf they can survive
\nNirvana in their minds eye
\nAs the huge trails wind and flow
\nAnd up a great green living tree
\nThe bloody masses go<\/p>\n
Imagine you must scarper quick
\nLeave the deck chair behind
\nSky daddle out of that place fast
\nOr you might as well find
\nThe armies swamping every single part of you
\nAs on they go
\nClimbing up the varios trees
\nTo mate, one huge great flow<\/p>\n
Of horny rampant insects
\nIntent on having fun
\nOn filling the guts of frogs and toads
\nAnd lizards by the ton
\nTurtles tortoises head down
\nChewing insect meat
\nAll these six legged grotesque forms
\nTrying to compete<\/p>\n
As their legs rub together
\nThey produce a rasping sound
\nSpray water on them and listen
\nIts like a human baby being drowned
\nAs nymphs they float to muster
\nAnd gradually they will
\nLeave their ancestral skeletons
\nAnd, then just be still<\/p>\n
17 years of contemplation
\nWorking through it all
\nGetting into the moment
\nAnswering the call
\nThe cicada’s march to freedom
\nA relentless and frustrated trail<\/p>\n
Don’t fuck with me
\nI heard one say
\nThere’s a lizard with no tail<\/p>\n
Who clearly had scoffed hundreds
\nAnd began to feel quite sick
\nThe wings got in between his teeth
\nAnd he would rather miss that trick
\nFor he had made a real pig of himself
\nAnd he didnt want to see
\nHis teeth masked up in insect guts
\nIn any quantity<\/p>\n
Anymore cicada’s not for 17 Years
\nHis teeth ached he felt half baked
\nIf just one more appears<\/p>\n
I will just go stir crazy
\nAnd as one just flew by
\nHe fell out of the tree he did
\nAnd on the ground did lie
\nFeatureless and lacking form
\nThe poor soul then took heed
\nBurrowing back into the soil
\nWhere The tree roots he would feed<\/p>\n
Selfless lifeless given
\nTo live to mate to die
\nTo fertilise and realize
