\nWith how a character would feel
\nHiding on an island
\nWhere fear was very real
\nHistoricity had brought down on him
\nAdversity and gore
\nAs sailors had come ashore
\nTo plunder and whats more
\nTo slaughter all his family
\nHis resignation to
\ncrawl away and hide somewhere
\nAs a hermit just might do<\/p>\n
His impediments were many
\nHe was aging and was slow
\nAgainst the hungry sailors
\nHis abilities were low
\nSurvival though was integral
\nWhich was why he crept away
\nAnd created his isolation
\nAnd removal on that day<\/p>\n
The Tortoise takes small steps
\nAnd is a gentle soul
\nSecreted in a cave somewhere
\nDisenchanted with his role
\nIts a puzzling situation
\nIsolation could be grim
\nBut safety first was paramount
\nCertainly for him<\/p>\n
Survival was his object
\nBut gradually he felt
\nDisplaced and really lonely
\nThe cards that he’d been dealt
\nWere weighing on his psyche
\nHe was a virle male
\nHe wanted so much to pass on his genes
\nBut Because He was in gaol<\/p>\n
As the years passed by of course
\nFrustration set a course
\nHe now was so much slower
\nAs was his life force
\nHe had lost some of his confidence
\nAnd had succumbed to compromise
\nHad capitulated in many ways
\nAwaiting his demise<\/p>\n
With a realization that probably he was
\nThe only living giant left
\nReally just because
\nHe hadnt seen another
\nAnd imagined they were gone
\nAnd so began to regret
\nThat he had ever come upon
\nThese islands of Galapagos
\nSo isolated and
\nClearly it was difficult
\nFor him to understand<\/p>\n
He must have felt deflated
\nA giant of bis brood
\nAnd feeling rather wretched
\nAnd of course subdued
\nAnd when he was discovered
\nAnd his Problem became known
\nHis transfer to a harem
\nFor his seeds to now be sown<\/p>\n
Must have brought excitement
\nTo his life I have to feel
\nBut with his impediment of age
\nA shyness would be real
\nWould females really fancy him
\nOr would they try to forestall
\nAnd he really didnt have the time
\nOr the inclination call<\/p>\n
He wanted to pass his genes on
\nHe wanted to do his thing
\nBut who on earth would Assist him
\nHis weight was going to bring
\nSome complex situations
\nAnd for years he had been apart
\nFrom females it was scary
\nAnd hard work for his heart<\/p>\n
And really his situation
\nWas a man made thing
\nThey had come and slaughtered
\nAll his brides and so did bring
\nThis whole humiliation
\nDown on him and so
\nHe began to think
\nIt was crazy
\nTo be a father
\nAnd to watch them grow<\/p>\n
He was facing a dichotomy
\nWhich ever way he turned
\nThere was tbis clear division
\nWould he be spurned or burned
\nClearly he had ambition
\nBut bis mission was unclear
\nFrustration and elation
\nAnd transition into fear<\/p>\n
As you probably know
\nDespite the ways of man kind
\nLonesome died
\nHe never got to copulate
\nAnd so for him inside
\nHe must have been disappointed
\nAnd frustrated as well
\nBut in his heart too
\nMust have thought
\nThe islands were just hell<\/p>\n
Marooned upon the islands
\nWere in some ways very good
\nBut the sailors plundering when they did
\nThey misunderstood
\nThe need to let these creatures be
\nTheir wisdom was not there
\n300 pounds of tortoise when you are hungry
\nAnd unaware<\/p>\n
Created this calamity
\nThere was so much stress
\nThe general feeling was abandonment
\nAnd there was no redress
\nAnd so the planet lost
\nThis kindly creature to old age
\nWe did not wake up till it was too late
\nAnd we all lost the sage<\/p>\n
And so we really have to contemplate
\nOthers who
\nAre getting close to extinction
\nAnd care for them it’s true
\nOur selfishness and our human traits
\nOf hunting and trapping and more
\nAre causing other wild souls to reach
\nA critical stage for sure<\/p>\n

\nThe Dodo and many more
\nOur egotistical pronouncements
\nFeel a lot like war
\nTo the wild souls of the wilderness
\nOf the forests of the sea
\nThey have their place
\nThey are part of
\nThe biodiversity<\/p>\n
We must not take for granted
\nEach now has a place
\nBecause we feel superior
\nArrogance at a pace
\nIs clearing from this planet
\nSo many souls and we
\nMust now take stock and stop this rot
\nOr we too may soon be<\/p>\n
Joining them all<\/p>\n
Always remember
\nThere is a place in time when there is no way back
