animals of Australia

Mention Australia and what comes to mind
The didgeridoo it makes me unwind
A termite hollowed stick with the ingenuity
Of Australia’s first people the aboriginie
The people of the bushlands
Who live sustainably
Foraging wild humans
Who once were truly free

Kind of like the animals
Occupants who found
As more and more of the human beings came
And wanted ground
They were pushed and prodded
And made to go away
Habitats were lost
To humans everyday

Despite this still Australia
Is perhaps the last frontier
Far away from its neighbours
A good thing which is clear
For the animals now living there
Are orginals and they
Can call themselves Australian
And are proud to so they say

Of course we now see fracking
Destroying bush land where
Many original creatures lived snd died
And the despair
Of seeing all this damage
To the natural way of life
Even the outback settlers
Are feeling the added strife

Trees are being torn down
They are truly laying waste
The energy corporations
Mindless goons in haste
To ruin all they cannot see
For what they imagine they
Can plunder of our whereabouts
And then just run away

But we the animals we are still
Flourishing for we
Live in those wild places
Human beings would really genuinely
Prefer to stay away from
Where we were put and where
We shall stay rewarded by creation
With a prayer

We are the Easter Grey KangAroos
And there are many kinds
We like to get down on the beach
Where there are lots of signs
Of nutritional food
And growing quickly
In the vibrant sand
On the Eastern Seaboard
Is where we make our land

On to Fraser Island
We Dingo’s love the life
Again down on the sands we go
Really little strife
We catch fish that just
Roll up in the surf whenever we
Love the freshness and the taste
For us the place to be
Sometimes we stay solitary
But if its our wish to hunt
We put a call out
And friends will come
And we then can punt
Around and catch some dinner
Life is afterall
Really what you make of it
Which is why we call

I am a loggerhead turtle
Heavy but in the sea
Weight just doesnt hamper
Its when I have to be
Dragging myself through the sand
To lay my clutch of eggs
Trying do that when you are overweight
And dont have any legs

To speak of, then its difficult
But of course we do
Need to create new families
We are mindful we are true
In the ocean we eat algae
It tastes good and it builds
Us up to face the currents
The stresses we have to bear
Its what creation gave us
Of that we are aware

Often in the ocean the spotted ones we see
The whale sharks they are giants
Who swim by aimlessly
Scooping up in their great mouths
Plankton by the ton
Diving down to massive depths
And back up to the sun

Sadly we hear the Chinese
Utilize their fins these days
To advertise their restaurants
Sharks fins that malaise
Thats when we see the pirates
Slaughter whale sharks and
Just slice off their precious fins
Which we do not understand

These massive feats of creation
Murdered by a few
Ignorant men just for their fins
That is what they do
And fifty tons of body mass
Is then just left to die
To slowly sink into the abyss
And to forever lie.

Wasted by the the brain dead humans
Who will never understand
As the plankton feeders diminish
It somehow knows not to expand
A phenomena that risks the future
Of all the plankton feeders who
Suffer over man’s great ignorance
And arrogance in what they do

You may have seen the Cassowary
A great big bird with legs so strong
Danger is my middle name
Endangered yes and all along
My black eyeball in an amber ring
The third largest bird in the world
I bring
Some Prehistoric values too
The present world yea just for you

I wear a crest on my forehead
My neck is blue and a bit red
I really like those kinds of blues
And sometimes I am on a real short fuse
So being endangered its best if you do
Stay at a distance its better for you

In Tasmania where we are from
They call us devils we are no sitcom
A friendly bunch to our own maybe
But everyone else would prefer not to see
We are very tenacious and our jaws are strong
Bone crushing teeth do belong
The Tasmanian devil and we are black
And recently seem to be getting more flack

Another friend around the place
Who has a peculiar little face
The duck billed platypus
From warrawong when you look at him
He doesnt belong
On this earth really but never mind
He eats half his own weight in molluscs
A bind

For the molluscs, its true which he eats at night
He’s a strange little being but is really alright

Mistletoe birds rainbow lorikeets
The great Kookaburra one of our elites
Eats snakes and lizards and his tell tale cry
Everyone out in the bush knows why
The lyre bird does mimic him
Charming his mate
So many others too many to state

The spiny echinda not the ants friend
Clearly loves acidic food and can lend
A helping paw for where ever they are
Ants are remarkably close never far
The Red Kangaroo thats me I am around
The biggest of all standing off of the ground
As big as a 4by 4 motor so I
Can run like the clappers
Which is really why

I am somewhat arrogant
And sleep lot
Out in the open
So I am not hiding
Not me I really dont care
Best is just leave me alone
Lets just share

All that is natural
For it all belongs
To all of us not you or me
Its the wrongs
That give us the creeps boys
For actually we
Will never hurt anyone
Take that from me

If you come to OZ
Get the train to the NORTH
The famous GHAN
If you can sally forth
To Kakadu where the aboriginie
Lives, its his home
Where he just feels free

All sorts of strange creatures
Live side by side
All of us wild
It cant be denied
JAcana’s the Jabiru
Brolgas and more
And hundreds of salties
The croc’s who are sure

They are kingpins
Found everywhere
In salt or fresh water
Just you be aware
Very resilient and able to be
Statuelike till you get close
Then you see
How fast we are
You will not get away
If on the banks you see us lay

With our mouths wide open
We are cooling the brain
Whilst heating our bodies
To the croc’s sweet refrain
AUSTRALIA ROCKS clearly thats true
If you are coming to see us
Now you know what to do

Mention Australia and what comes to mind The didgeridoo it makes me unwind A termite hollowed stick with the ingenuity Of
