{"id":33063,"date":"2017-05-08T07:59:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-08T07:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=33063"},"modified":"2017-05-08T18:29:45","modified_gmt":"2017-05-08T18:29:45","slug":"beltaine-ritual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/05\/beltaine-ritual\/","title":{"rendered":"Beltaine Ritual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A beautiful blue sky presented itself<br \/>\nAnd Rollrights was resplendent in green<br \/>\nAll was ablaze<br \/>\nwith the light of Beltaine<br \/>\nThe dandelion phantoms had been<br \/>\nOnce glorious carpets of golden<br \/>\nBut now just were pillows of puff<br \/>\nbuttercups golden and Daisies so white<br \/>\nCow Parsley Hugging the apron its bright<br \/>\nFloral patterning sharing<br \/>\nWith bluebells whose rich colouration<br \/>\nSo daring<br \/>\nThe eye to believe on this fresh Summers day<br \/>\nThat the heat from the sun would just melt us away<\/p>\n<p>For 4000 years the kingsmen had stood<br \/>\nAround in their own circle all for the good<br \/>\nOf so many visitors who came  along<br \/>\nTo walk hand in hand with their hearts in a song<br \/>\nChipping Norton looked grand flanked by Rape fields of yellow<br \/>\nPloughed fields of red like some soft hearted fellow<br \/>\nHad used a fine wash on his painting below<br \/>\nAnd captured the spirit the life and the flow<\/p>\n<p>The air was alive with flutter and verve<br \/>\nButterflies bees seed heads on wing<br \/>\nThe Cotswold Druids were planning their ritual<br \/>\nRobed up in white which the fine day did bring<br \/>\nLadies with floral tiaras reigned gently<br \/>\nDancers with beautiful arcs of delight<br \/>\nZakoor with his coat of nature before us<br \/>\nThe Arch Druid Veronica at a greening height<\/p>\n<p>The bale fires were lit and the sweet meats were present<br \/>\nThe mead the bee&#8217;s gift in small flagons laid<br \/>\nAs more and more visitors came you could feel it<br \/>\nThe energy rising within the parade<br \/>\nInside the stones we formed our great circle<br \/>\nHeld hands together absorbing the scene<br \/>\nFeeling the warmth of the sun<br \/>\nOn our faces<br \/>\nThe shimmering spangles of summery sheen<\/p>\n<p>Peace in the East in the South in the West in the North<br \/>\nAnd within us all<br \/>\nWe Felt it so<br \/>\nCalling  the quarters<br \/>\nOur Arch Druid really explained Beltaine simply<br \/>\nHelping the flow<\/p>\n<p>The May KIng and Queen chosen<br \/>\nSet to enthrawl to lead all the company<br \/>\nDown through the bale fires<br \/>\nIn to the south where the may pole now stood<br \/>\nThe great drum then sounded<br \/>\nClasping the ribbons they danced<br \/>\nAnd they dreamed as all dancers should<\/p>\n<p>They were then again led by the May King and Queen<br \/>\nBack through the South Portal back tween the fires<br \/>\nBack to our circle for the mead and the food<br \/>\nAnd to hear the bard Zakoor&#8217;s ode for the road<br \/>\nAnd then the three ladies decked in fine costumes<br \/>\nDanced with the great hoops of flowers to a tune<br \/>\nAncient and meaningful deftly creative<br \/>\nSo much expression they did festoon<\/p>\n<p>All those who came clearly dressed up to be there<br \/>\nThe druid family decked in their software<br \/>\nThe maidens were beautiful the gentlemen equal<br \/>\nOnto the speaking stick where each could share<br \/>\nA song or a poem a little about themselves<br \/>\nAnd all the while Summer was clearly on song<br \/>\nAll felt its warmth and the sweet interlude<br \/>\nWhere each of us really felt we did belong<\/p>\n<p>Out on the hill far away from our cell phones<br \/>\nAnd The digital world that was cramping our space<br \/>\nHere we could dance to the tune of the summer<br \/>\nAnd enjoy some light banter and really the face<br \/>\nOf a warm day in May, in the open air sharing<br \/>\nFriendship and laughter and just being true<br \/>\nTo ourselves The great mother to the ancestors other<br \/>\nReceiving the blessings as they did accrue.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks be to all who came and participated<br \/>\nSpecial thanks to Veronica and Dave<br \/>\nFor all the work they put in to<br \/>\nMaking our unique gathering so very special.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A beautiful blue sky presented itself And Rollrights was resplendent in green All was ablaze with the light of Beltaine The dandelion phantoms had been Once glorious carpets of golden But now just were pillows of puff buttercups golden and &hellip;
