\nProcess the commodities
\nAnd sell them onto you<\/p>\n
The almonds grown on forest trees
\n5o meters high in a raging forest
\nIn Bolivia the sky
\nReleasing vast amounts of rain
\nDown on harvesters who
\nMake a lousy pittance
\nBut work the whole day throug
\nImost awful conditions
\nIn the heat
\nBre almond shells up
\nLying at their feet
\nIn this pile of shells the snakes
\nAnd spiders live and ply
\nAll extremely noxious beasts
\nWhose bite you cant defy<\/p>\n
It Will reduce you to a shaking wreck
\nWith fever and so much pain
\nYou may not be able to walk for a month
\nAnd life will feel insane
\nAnd all For a bag of almonds
\nThat truly weighs a lot
\nTo carry one you need
\nA strong back and a stronger will
\nIf you are, to succeed<\/p>\n
The jungle is developing
\ninto a quagmire
\nUnder the weight of almonds
\nyou can fall
\nAt 25 cents per kilo
\nthere’s no money in this torture
\nAnd with all this illegal logging
\nTheres a wall
\nof mud and rain and rivers
\nalmost everywhere
\nThe roads many impassable and so
\nBOlivia is sinking
\ninto shafts of crimson mud
\nAnd On foot there is really
\nno where you can go<\/p>\n
Truckers know they have to get their cargoes through
\nRaging rivers torrents everywhere
\nLandslides it is hell on earth to attempt this
\nBridges washed away and yet more despair
\nThe price we pay that us in supermarkets
\n100 times whatever the workers earn
\nThey go through hell and high water for the pittance
\nAnd the corporations are forcing them to turn<\/p>\n
Their labour into slavery the notion
\nThat an infra structure exists is borne away
\nWe are taking liberties with people
\nThey are struggling and although we pay<\/p>\n
Like Palm oil and the workers in the forests
\nSuffering the vagaries of man
\nIllegally performing massive environmental crimes
\nAnd obviously its really all to plan
\nThe environment is suffering like crazy
\nThe animals and the indigenous are too
\nAnd its so that our great supermarkets
\nCan keep their profits high
\nAnd we can get round and join the queue<\/p>\n
As ignorant as the day is long thats us as well
\nContributing to the squalor in the East
\nIn the forests in the rivers we are not life givers
\nIts our ignorance and our ego’s they like least
\nImagining the dangers and the lowly pay
\nAccredited to these almond pickers who
\nAre made to risk their lives each day
\nFor little
\nWhilst we get hand outs out of their low pay<\/p>\n
The roads supposedly arterial conduits
\nBut actually mud baths and land slides where
\nLocal people are washed away and slaughtered
\nEvery single place built on despair
\nIts not that they dont want to work
\nThey are slaving
\non a gang forever and a day
\nWatching all the blood and sweat of aeons
\nReally in a nutshell washed away<\/p>\n
If you buy into Bolivian Almonds
\nI want you just to think of where they were from
\nHow the gatherers suffered to bring them to you
\nReally the whole market needs a bomb
\nUp its arse for all the true unfairness
\nCorruption on a scale beyond belief
\nAnd we are all part of this with our ignorance
\nFor the workers really havent got relief<\/p>\n
Fair trade we are too pissed off to worry
\nA lot here wouldnt pay the extra for
\nunknown souls now out in Amazononia
\nLiving in their world of blood and gore
\nOf no food on the table no water from the tap
\nThere is no fucking tap around you just about can crap
\nSomewhere in a muddy hole where the tarantulas and snakes
\nAre ready to reward you for the almond shells,
\nit takes<\/p>\n
To keep the heart a pumping, to keep the soul on board
\nTo worry about the next days food and will someone reward
\nYou and help with feeding your baby struggling at your breast
\nSlung across your aching back caked in mud to test
\nEverybody’s spirit really its never fair
\nTo buy from supermarkets and never stop to care
\nBut then thats life apparent
\nYou just get in your car
\nAnd buy your fancy nick nacks
