{"id":32942,"date":"2017-04-29T09:43:04","date_gmt":"2017-04-29T09:43:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=32942"},"modified":"2017-04-29T10:27:47","modified_gmt":"2017-04-29T10:27:47","slug":"subsistence-whaling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/04\/subsistence-whaling\/","title":{"rendered":"Subsistence whaling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Feeding the community<br \/>\nA task some see as fun<br \/>\nStriking at a bowhead whale<br \/>\nWhen all is said and done<br \/>\nHas a  degree of valour<br \/>\nBut a species of this kind<br \/>\nThat has swum around for two hundred years<br \/>\nA female just to find<br \/>\nSuch an awesome creature<br \/>\nIs to give respect not try<br \/>\nTo hunt a noble bow head<br \/>\nAnd to see it die<\/p>\n<p>They never leave the arctic<br \/>\nNot particularly  sociable they<br \/>\nAre solitary or move in small pods<br \/>\nTheir  existence we can say<br \/>\nIs miraculous creation<br \/>\nWith the biggest mouth of all<br \/>\nA baleen whale without a dorsal fin<br \/>\nAnd  as a rule<\/p>\n<p>Is slow seemingly confident<br \/>\n57 feet in length<br \/>\nUndeniably miraculous<br \/>\nWith unbelievable strength<br \/>\nTo break through ice<br \/>\nSo to see a young teenager<br \/>\nJust 16<br \/>\nStrike and kill a female whale<br \/>\nis unbelievably mean<\/p>\n<p>And The threat<br \/>\nThat such an animal can<br \/>\nBe put to death for being<br \/>\nAnywhere near man<br \/>\nIn Gambell they love to eat whales<br \/>\nAnd AGRAGIIG felt the need<br \/>\nTo slaughter this great ocean beast<br \/>\nAnd be happy to watch it bleed<\/p>\n<p>But its not as if they are starving<br \/>\nAnd the need is actually there<br \/>\nThis boy is at high school<br \/>\nSo feelings he has to share<br \/>\nBasically by killing such a venerable<br \/>\nBeast he does<br \/>\nGain a lot of kudos<br \/>\nAnd he  gets his buzz<\/p>\n<p>And so he struck and slaughtered<br \/>\nThis 200 year old whale<br \/>\nAnd I agree it is wrong who ever kills<br \/>\nThe ugly trail<br \/>\nOf blood and guts and life itself<br \/>\nPaul Watson he saw through<br \/>\nThe magic of the slaughter<br \/>\nAnd what this lad did do<\/p>\n<p>And stood up to be counted<br \/>\nRegretting this whale died<br \/>\nAnd they levelled at him<br \/>\nRemarks of being racial<br \/>\nIn his stride<br \/>\nThis man puts his life on the line<br \/>\nTo try and save all whales<br \/>\nAnd so to see another slaughtered<br \/>\nCompassion for them fails<\/p>\n<p>Every life that is lost<br \/>\nFrom creation is a loss too far<br \/>\nThe miracle which was this wondrous beast<br \/>\nTo go out  there and spar<br \/>\nWith what is such nobility<br \/>\nWhose age alone is great<br \/>\nWho earned respect with  her great size<br \/>\nWho dares compensate?<\/p>\n<p>Creation for such evil<br \/>\nThe enormity of the crime<br \/>\nFor a sixteen year old to carry this out<br \/>\nIs bound to weigh in time<br \/>\nComplete lack of respect<br \/>\nAnd a vile inadequacy<br \/>\nA matriarch of such proportions<br \/>\nMet an untimely death<br \/>\nIll-omened in the scheme of things<br \/>\nTo deny her the shared breath<\/p>\n<p>Extinguished by the flood of youth<br \/>\nAll pervading and uncouth<br \/>\nLooking to impress it feels<br \/>\nInsensitively it now reveals<br \/>\nMindless and wanting to a degree<br \/>\nDisorientated possibly<br \/>\nTo me an illogicality<br \/>\nA kind of gullibility<br \/>\nShort sighted and gung hoish<br \/>\nAnd inexperienced actually<br \/>\nSubsistence for the indigenous peoples<br \/>\nSeemingly is shot away<br \/>\nKilling bowheads in the Arctic<br \/>\nReally marks their blackest day<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Feeding the community A task some see as fun Striking at a bowhead whale When all is said and done Has a degree of valour But a species of this kind That has swum around for two hundred years A &hellip;
