Bats and rats and wolves and mice
\nAnd SNAKES all get bad press
\nMOsquito’s Fleas and wasps
\nAnd crocodiles they need redress
\nNegative connotations
\nLevelled at people, hurt
\nAnd similarly for animals
\nThat crawl down in the dirt
\nLegless lidless lateral thinkers
\nSnaking through the grass
\nMeandering and undulating
\nQuietly as we pass<\/p>\n
Unknowingly they quietly go
\nGently on their way
\nOr are holed up in their burrows
\nWhere they pass their nights away
\nThey really live a secret life
\nIn the winter months they hide
\nIn a burrow underground
\nAnd when the sun comes up
\nThey slide<\/p>\n
Quietly through the litter
\nAnd watch the Spring flowers bloom
\nObserving the colourful butterflies
\nAbsorbing the perfume
\nSubtle but its clearly there
\nTo open the psychic soul
\nAnd engage their wings
\nTo greater things
\nTo take on their given role<\/p>\n
Behold the grass snake slithers
\nWith yellow markings on its hea

Remember snakes have lidless eyes
\nThey never ever blink
\nTheir darting tongue
\nIs not aggression
\nWhich some people think
\nIts a way to smell their victims

\nIts an ignorance on our part
\nAnd proves we do not care<\/p>\n
Grass snakes take a dip
\nAnd can smell underwater
\nFrogs and toads are fair game
\nAnd Snakes will not give them a quarter
\nThey are very very practical
\nAnd their silence is their strength
\nTheir skin is perfect camouflage
\nRight throughout its length<\/p>\n
In the water snakes must take care
\nFor otters are about
\nApart from fish and crabs and mussels
\nThe snake must have no doubt
\nThe otter isn’t timid
\nAnd snakes have no defence
\nApart from being careful
\nOr they will become past tense<\/p>\n
Grass snakes lay eggs 40 or 50
\nIn rotting vegetation
\nThey use composted heat
\nTo guarantee creation
\nThe eggs are soft with indentations
\nOn them and we see
\nThem broken from the inside
\nThe new born escapee<\/p>\n
The Aesculapian isnt venenomous
\nBut its history is long

The adder or the viper
\nWill climb and tend to be
\nEven in the mountains
\nYou can see the vertical V
\nWith a wavy ribbon of darkness
\nOn the back of their head
\nThey mate in May
\nAnd dance some say
\nAnd love mice in their bed<\/p>\n
hedgehogs present a challenge
\nThe venom on its spines
\nWill make not a shade of difference
\nNo matter how many times
\nThe snake strikes out
\nAnd what will happen
\nThe snake does gets

\nIts absolutely a waste of time
\nAnd does beggar belief<\/p>\n
The females are brown to copper
\nThe males are rather grey
\nSometimes vipers can be black
\nIt happens so they say
\nSome genetic imbalance
\nLike albino similarly
\nAnd it isn’t more aggressive
\nThats a travesty<\/p>\n
Smooth snakes have round eyes
\nAnd they hunt lizards when they can
\nThey are like a mini python
\nThe big squeeze that is their plan<\/p>\n
The Dice snake another harmless soul
\nTo humans
\nIn its defense it secretes a rotten smell
\nFrom Out of its cloaka
\nYou would have to be a joker
\nIt also plays dead
\nLike a bat from hell<\/p>\n
It swims and likes to be
\nUnder the water
\nWalking on the bottom
\nAnd it dives
\nUnconstructed banks
\nAnd flowing water
\nClean and pristine
\nIs where it survives<\/p>\n
It has a powerful grip
\nAnd swallows fishes whole
\nFlexible jaws unlock
\nAnd re adjust
\nIn 2009 was endangered reptile of the year
\nPollution is fhat factor that does bust<\/p>\n
25 eggs again laid in a veggie heap
\nTakes about ten weeks
\nAnd then we see
\nA tangle of baby dice snakes
\nWriggling everywhere

\nWhere there will be a host of
\nTiny tadpoles and snakes all have
\nAn insatiable appetite

\nWill eat and eat
\nEnjoying every bite<\/p>\n
Digestion though it takes quite a bit longer
\nThey like to rest up and warm up a while
\nThere is predation around
\nSo they must be careful
\nThe praying mantis it will just astound
\nAnd overwhelm young snakes
\nWith Smash and grab raids
\nHeld and eaten alive to the last scale
\nSnakes have lots of enemies
\nTo think about
\nAnd need their wits about them
\nOr they will fail<\/p>\n
Snakes have milky eyes
\nAnd shed their skin a lot
\nThats how they grow
\nImagine as we get bigger
\nWe have to shed skin tHen we’d know
\nWhat its like to be a snake
\nTheres a lot to think about
\nAnd people get scared and thrown into a panic
\nBut I have my doubt<\/p>\n
If it is really true
\nFor some will buy
\nA snakes skin bag
\nThat cost the earth
\nAnd a life too
\nSuch a fag!<\/p>\n
It always makes me shudder
\nWhen I see these women wear
\nAnimal skins whilst moaning
\nThat snakes are here and scare
\nThe life out of some people
\nWho will avidly wear their skin
\nAnd tell themselves its “designer”
\nSorry the excuse wears thin<\/p>\n
To me they are hags of the brain dead
\nNo respect for life
\nThe skins and furs they wear
\nAnd the unbelievable strife
\nWe put them through to remove their skins
\nThe agony and pain
\nSo we can say how beautiful
\nOur bag looks in the rain<\/p>\n
And pay the corporations
\nThousands of pounds whilst we
\nKnow people who caught the snakes somewhere
\nGet a pittance actually
\nEncouraging anybody to hunt
\nDown snakes so you
\nCan profit from their agony
\nLet karmic debt ensue<\/p>\n
But can you see the conflation
\nOf wearing the skins of those
\nYou only ever thought badly of
\nTo me it really shows
\nTheir total evil arrogance
\nAnd their ignorance should be
\nRewarded witH a life of hell
