{"id":32771,"date":"2017-04-19T08:00:15","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T08:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=32771"},"modified":"2017-04-19T08:04:39","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T08:04:39","slug":"bats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/04\/bats\/","title":{"rendered":"Bats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chiroptera the winged hand<br \/>\nMammals that can fly<br \/>\nSuffering from the human trait<br \/>\nOf slagging them off<br \/>\nBut why<br \/>\nDid Bram Stoker cause confusion<br \/>\nWith Dracula where he<br \/>\nPlanted a seed in many a mind<br \/>\nAnd there in fact it be<\/p>\n<p>All bats are seen as eerie<br \/>\nIgnorantly some feel<br \/>\nThey are flying rodents<br \/>\nThat actually lack appeal<br \/>\nBut nothing could be further from the truth<br \/>\nIt must be said<br \/>\nFor the bats are insect devourers<br \/>\nSo let me put to bed<\/p>\n<p>The idea they are pest controllers<br \/>\nThey are wild souls of the night<br \/>\nThey live in roosts in caves and holes<br \/>\nMammals that gained flight<br \/>\nThey choose to hang upside down<br \/>\nAnd view the world that way<br \/>\nForagers of insects and beetles<br \/>\nAnd moths that come their way<\/p>\n<p>SClearly they eat insects<br \/>\nAs many as they can find<br \/>\nMosquito&#8217;s and their larvae<br \/>\nOf course they have dined<br \/>\nBut they require such energy<br \/>\nAnd nutrition is their key<br \/>\nSo they also take out moths and flies<br \/>\nAnd midges actually<\/p>\n<p>Some will take out beetles and june fbugs<br \/>\nAnd mayflies<br \/>\nSome will fly to street lamps<br \/>\nAnd hoover up those guys<br \/>\nIts unlikely they are mosquitos<br \/>\nMore likely moths me thinks<br \/>\nBut clearly they are consuming lots<br \/>\nWhen we have our 40 winks<\/p>\n<p>Birds too like the purple martin<br \/>\nAnd dragonflies consume<br \/>\nMosquito&#8217;s in their thousands<br \/>\nAnd damsel flies who loom<br \/>\nArOund consuming madly<br \/>\nAs do the frogs and toads<br \/>\nAnd also of course the tadpoles<br \/>\nAll of them eat loads<\/p>\n<p>The bigger bats eat beetles<br \/>\nGood nutrition there<br \/>\nAll part of  the arsenal<br \/>\nThat GAIA has made aware<br \/>\nBalance is her modus operandi<br \/>\nAnd therefore<br \/>\nThats the realization<br \/>\nIts not what they are for<\/p>\n<p>To eat up all the mosquitos<br \/>\nEssentially they do<br \/>\nEat their share<br \/>\nSo its good they are there<br \/>\nBut equally its true<br \/>\nThey do eat other insects<br \/>\nThat give them greater fuel<br \/>\nCucumber beetles a delicacy<br \/>\nA kind of batty gruel<\/p>\n<p>That feeling of eerieness<br \/>\nDetracts from their esteem<br \/>\nThey surely are our flying friends<br \/>\nAnd if they reach our dream<br \/>\nIt should be in the positive<br \/>\nFor they are great beings and<br \/>\nThere are  1300 different types<br \/>\nFor us to understand<\/p>\n<p>There are vampire bats approximately 3 of the many species<br \/>\nLiving entirely on blood<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chiroptera the winged hand Mammals that can fly Suffering from the human trait Of slagging them off But why Did Bram Stoker cause confusion With Dracula where he Planted a seed in many a mind And there in fact it &hellip;
