To focus on the ethical
\nMy mind dwells on Taiji
\nThe Azores in mid Atlantic
\nWere whalers actually
\nSo tradition said they kill whales
\nAlways sperm whales for they
\nWhen they are hurt are easier
\nTo kill thats what they say<\/p>\n
But back in 1983 they decided
\nAll in all
\nWhaling wasnt economic
\nAnd they answered the call
\nThey respected the great whales
\nAnd the need to try
\nAnd watch them rather than murder them
\nAnd have found it works
\nAnd why<\/p>\n
Because its really wonderful
\nThat these iconic souls do come
\nTo FAIAL and PICO and watchers
\nAnd there are some
\nWho clearly visit the Azores
\nJust to see the whales
\nAnd realise their beauty
\nand pay homage to their trails<\/p>\n
Back when they were hunting
\nKilling 20,000 a year
\nAll that blood and guts
\nAnd pain a stain
\nCreated fear
\nNow its a truly lovely place
\nTo holiday and know
\nSuch a lovely aura
\nThat really does just grow<\/p>\n
Many many sailors come
\nTo the islands they
\nFeel the positivity
\nThe sea wall it does play
\nInto such uniqueness
\nIts where sailors leave their view
\nReally special works of art
\nOf every tone and hue<\/p>\n
You feel relaxed about the place
\nBut respect its unique charm
\nYou feel that you are part of something
\nAnd, that sense of calm
\nOf the paradise around you
\nThe ocean and the sky
\nThe caves the rocks the whale watching
\nAll of this is high<\/p>\n
Of anybody’s expectation
\nAnd dreams one has to say
\nAnd the dolphins many many come
\nAnd Not one is made to pay
\nThe people love the cetaceans
\nThese volcanic islands are
\nOpen for all nature lovers
\nFollowing their star<\/p>\n
They really make a study now
\nOf looking after whales
\nRubber boats go out to watch
\nAnd when those gigantic tails
\nSink back into the ocean
\nPeople are moved to feel
\nA deep respect for every time
\nIt happens for The appeal<\/p>\n
Its really and truly moving
\nAnd emotional for some
\nTo see this mountain of a beast
\nWhose great heart like a drum
\nIs close and it is sharing the oxygen
\nAs we
\nShare it with our family the great whales
\nOf the sea<\/p>\n
The sperm is the largest toothed whale
\nIts enormous and to see ,it no less than 50 yards away
\nWith all its majesty
\nThe venerable significance its an all embracing gain
\nWatchers look in awe at them
\nA reciprocol refrain<\/p>\n
And this comes from a whaling nation
\nWho murdered thousands each year
\nFor meat and wax and oil their attacks
\nBy hand brought so much fear
\nInto the towns and around the cliffs
\nAnd now more of them come
\nClearly they sense the safety
\nAnd for sure there are some <\/p>\n
Many types of dolphins the risso’s
\nWho we know
\nAre often driven in Taiji
\nAnd murdered for the show
\nRIsso!s are more nervous
\nAnd try to stay away
\nBut are safe along the coasts here
\nOn any single day<\/p>\n
It goes to show how empathy
\nAnd compassion can win through
\nThere is no need to kill and maim
\nIts much better when we do
\nConserve and care for GAIA’s children
\nAs the people do
\nWhale watching is amazing
\nWith so many now on view<\/p>\n
And when you are there the harmony
\nIts the zenith in a way
\nIts the reason why you go there
\nReally as if to say
\nIts the finishing touch
\nFulfilment
\nIn everything you do
\nThe city streets the cliff tops the harbour
\nEvery view<\/p>\n
Is positive, and beautiful
\nIts a joyful place to be
\nIdeal for a holiday
\nThe portuguese must see
\nHow blessed they are to have this place
\nSo focused actually
\nThere is something here for everyone
\nAnd endless boundless way
\nA point of time
\nWhen every rhyme
\nSlips from the pen to play<\/p>\n
And the light is so abundant
\nAnd the colours of nature do
\nFeel just so immortal
\nTheir permanence rings true
\nThere is a modern feel and a mellowness
\nReally its got it all
