A matriarchal system
\nAnd a wildness of the heart
\n“sita” an asian elephant
\nReally from the start
\nEnded up in circus
\nNo place for any souls
\nBe forced to travel here and there
\nAnd to take on all sorts of roles<\/p>\n
Tragically she managed
\nTo break her legs and she
\nWas forced then just to stand about
\nIn what was agony
\nStuck there by a temple
\nIn the blazing sun
\nNeglected by all comers
\nAnd that was never fun<\/p>\n
All that weight on damaged legs
\nForces one to lean
\nTo try and alleviate suffering
\nIt is almost obscene
\nShe just stood on one spot
\nWith infected toes it shows
\nThe limited help she got alas
\nWhich now well yes she knows<\/p>\n
27 different owners
\nAnd they all a waste a time
\nShe must have really gone through hell
\nAnd there was no
\nrhyme
\nOr reason for this neglect
\nAnyone could see
\nThat Sita she was suffering
\nIn pain constantly<\/p>\n
When one’s maneuverability
\nIs poor then what we see
\nIs often they stay in one place
\nAnd its not a place to be
\nIt never was a better life
\nMore angst for her i am sure
\nAnd age caused her to drop weight
\nAnd apparently she was sore<\/p>\n
Her food was never regular
\nAnd that really is a pain
\nWhen you are suffering on your own
\nThere is nothing to gain
\nWith routine being broken
\nIts what you depend on
\nAnd if well you go crazy
\nThen life is kind of gone<\/p>\n
Poor Sita harking back
\nTo times gone by when she was wild
\nTrying through such times in fact
\nTo get it reconciled
\nShe came by animAl ambulance
\nThe first one of its kind
\nSo that was rather special for her
\nAnd might have blown her mind<\/p>\n
In the sanctuary she met Miya
\nSomeone she had known
\nBefore in the circus
\nSo was not to be alone
\nIt was lovely to see Miya
\nAnd to reminisce
\nFor elepgnats have long memories
\nAnd can recall some bliss<\/p>\n
Meeting up again with Miya
\nClearly has been good
\nBut they cannot stay together
\nIn one pen
\nFor sita would
\nLean on Miya and that wouldnt be
\nA good idea
\nAnd so they stay in seperate pens
\nBut chat a bit and thats clear<\/p>\n
Its good to see the elephants
\nGetting a better deal
\nAnd meeting up with volunteers
\nWho care and who are real
\nWho spend time and are patient
\nAnd kindly which is why
\nThis poem is for SIta
\nWho can and will rely<\/p>\n
On a better life entirely
\nThan the long years from before
\nNeglect is really terrible
\nAnd hearts become so sore
\nBut gradually the memories
\nWill fade a bit as they
\nGet down to living in the now
\nYes living for each day<\/p>\n
