\nIts sum and its substance
\nIts perpetual relation
\nHistory really the bedrock of soul
\nThe fundamentals that gave each their role
\nThe essential nature
\nThe enduring tree
\nThe forest the grove
\nWhere I to be<\/p>\n
In the midst of this virtue
\nThis genuine prize
\nWell grounded and tangible
\nWhose imaginary eyes
\nAre fixed on the magickal kingdom
\nWhere we
\nKnow many spirited people now be<\/p>\n
Spring the great flourish the effusive light
\nThat comes into our being
\nThat broadens our sight
\nThat concentrates colour
\nIn our minds eye
\nWhere the fourth tree of Ogham’s
\nRoots tend to lie<\/p>\n
In the damp at the waters edge
\nPowerfully so
\nSo many watery spirits they know
\nIt reduces anxiety emotionally
\nA tree of protection
\nAnd fertility<\/p>\n
It is known as the goddess tree
\nResistant to rot
\nUsed in the pilings of buildings a lot
\nOn bridges and water wheels
\nCanal locks for they
\nWill remain in situ
\nWithout any decay<\/p>\n
In the battle of trees
\nShe was on the front line

\nIts just overwhelms<\/p>\n
TAliesen mentioned it long long ago
\nBRan carried its twigs
\nIts a tree we all know
\nMakes charcoal for gunpowder
\nSomewhatbif a jewel
\nKills lice and scabies
\nbut is useless for fuel<\/p>\n
Its leaves are quite rounded
\nAnd sticky when young
\nBrought into old cottage
\nA use now unsung
\nWas to sprinkle wildly all over the floor
\nSo insects would stick to them
\nSo when swept out the door<\/p>\n
That would be that no insects to see
\nAll stuck on alder leaves
\nOutside you see
\nNAture is helpful
\nIn so many ways
\nAnd knowing the trees
\nIs worthy of praise<\/p>\n
The druids were up to it
\nAnd this old bard
\nHas on his robes
\nTrees they are starred
\nAllng with the insects
\nAnd creatures abroad
\nALBUS GLUTINOSA the tree of accord<\/p>\n
In irish tradition the first man was said
\nTo be born from the alder
\nThe first women instead
\nOf the alder twas the rowan
\nSo now we all know
\nThats where we came from
\nAnd just possibly we
\nshould learn to identify
