A new year
\nFull of expectation
\nAnd hope eternal where
\nGrey skies are still in our face
\nBut we are more aware
\nThat The days are a getting longer
\nAnd despite the frost and cold
\nWe Just passed imbolc
\nWhen Winter breaks its hold
\na few more slippery pavements
\nThen we shall be heralding Spring
\nWe can see the green shoots peeping
\nthrough as the snowdrops fling
\nTheir focus into brightening
\nThe paths and waysides where
\nGAIA sprinkled them long ago
\nAnd Every year they share
\nTheir energy providing
\nThat element of hope
\nThe farmers pay their rents for land
\nCross quarter days
\nThey understand
\nAnd celebrate the changing season
\nThe little lambs are here
\nFresh Ewes milk is available
\nIt is, that time of year<\/p>\n
The first, opportunity
\nto plough and of course to wake
\nthe land from its wintry slumber
\nTo warm for its own sake
\nAnd restore its capability
\nSome trees are bare its true
\nBut there are alwats some evergreen
\nAnd with Spring bulbs now emerging
\nTo a rapidly changing scene
\nAfter weeks of darkness
\nWith the blackthorn blooming soon
\nPussy willows and forsythia
\nAre Breaking into tune
\nWith their canary yellow movements
\nThat so excite the eyes
\nAs true light comes a calling
\nIt makes us realize
\nThe contrasts are apparent
\nIt really is good news
\nSpring will soon be sprung again
\nThere is not much time to lose<\/p>\n
At the midpoint berween
\nThe Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox
\nRemembering the holy wells
\nAnd the sad old brocks
\nOut there in their setts somewhere
\nGiving blessings, to them,we
\nAre still beside a roaring fire
\nFuelled by an old ash tree.
\nThinking ofcourse of Brigid
\nThe highly exalted one
\nHer mother who was Boanne
\nHer father Dagda won
\nA really handsome privilege
\n3 sisters With thecsame name
\nBrigid so a triple goddess
\nTo his family came
\nOne Brigid of the poets
\nOf healing and alchemy
\nA pan-celtic goddess
\nAs wise as could ever be
\nHonoured and revered by pagans
\nAlmost everywhere
\nIts at Imbolc when she passes by
\nHer enchantments for to share
\nMany make the Brigids Cross
\nEqual armed it be
\nWhich she made out of reed
\nA solar symbol actually
\nIts like an ancient swastika
\nprotection for you all
\nFix it on a byre
\nOr on your front door
