{"id":32170,"date":"2017-02-02T16:45:58","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T16:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=32170"},"modified":"2017-02-04T12:40:48","modified_gmt":"2017-02-04T12:40:48","slug":"imbolc-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/02\/imbolc-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Imbolc  what is it and why do  we celebrate \uff1f"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new year<br \/>\nFull of expectation<br \/>\nAnd hope eternal where<br \/>\nGrey skies are still in our face<br \/>\nBut we are more aware<br \/>\nThat The days are a getting longer<br \/>\nAnd despite the  frost and cold<br \/>\nWe Just passed imbolc<br \/>\nWhen Winter breaks its hold<br \/>\na few more slippery pavements<br \/>\nThen we shall  be heralding  Spring<br \/>\nWe can see the green shoots peeping<br \/>\nthrough as the snowdrops fling<br \/>\nTheir focus into brightening<br \/>\nThe paths and waysides where<br \/>\nGAIA sprinkled them long ago<br \/>\nAnd Every year they share<br \/>\nTheir energy providing<br \/>\nThat element of hope<br \/>\nThe farmers pay their rents for land<br \/>\nCross quarter days<br \/>\nThey understand<br \/>\nAnd celebrate the changing season<br \/>\nThe little lambs are here<br \/>\nFresh Ewes milk is available<br \/>\nIt is, that time of year<\/p>\n<p>The first, opportunity<br \/>\nto plough and of course to wake<br \/>\nthe land from its wintry slumber<br \/>\nTo warm  for its own sake<br \/>\nAnd restore its capability<br \/>\nSome trees  are  bare its true<br \/>\nBut there  are alwats some evergreen<br \/>\nAnd with Spring bulbs now emerging<br \/>\nTo a rapidly changing scene<br \/>\nAfter weeks of darkness<br \/>\nWith the blackthorn blooming soon<br \/>\nPussy willows and forsythia<br \/>\nAre Breaking into tune<br \/>\nWith their canary yellow movements<br \/>\nThat so excite the eyes<br \/>\nAs true light comes a calling<br \/>\nIt makes us realize<br \/>\nThe contrasts are apparent<br \/>\nIt really is good news<br \/>\nSpring will soon be sprung again<br \/>\nThere is not much time to lose<\/p>\n<p>At the midpoint berween<br \/>\nThe Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox<br \/>\nRemembering the holy wells<br \/>\nAnd the sad old brocks<br \/>\nOut there in their setts somewhere<br \/>\nGiving blessings, to them,we<br \/>\nAre still beside a roaring fire<br \/>\nFuelled by an old ash tree.<br \/>\nThinking ofcourse of Brigid<br \/>\nThe highly exalted one<br \/>\nHer mother who was Boanne<br \/>\nHer father Dagda won<br \/>\nA really handsome privilege<br \/>\n3 sisters With  thecsame name<br \/>\nBrigid so a triple goddess<br \/>\nTo his family came<br \/>\nOne Brigid of the poets<br \/>\nOf healing and alchemy<br \/>\nA pan-celtic goddess<br \/>\nAs wise as could ever be<br \/>\nHonoured and revered by pagans<br \/>\nAlmost everywhere<br \/>\nIts at Imbolc when she passes by<br \/>\nHer enchantments for to share<br \/>\nMany make the Brigids Cross<br \/>\nEqual armed it be<br \/>\nWhich she made out of reed<br \/>\nA solar symbol actually<br \/>\nIts like an ancient swastika<br \/>\nprotection for you all<br \/>\nFix it on a byre<br \/>\nOr on your front  door<br \/>\nWhen folk call<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new year Full of expectation And hope eternal where Grey skies are still in our face But we are more aware That The days are a getting longer And despite the frost and cold We Just passed imbolc When &hellip;
