A raven found its haven
\nIn an attic down the street
\nA great place for him to stay awhile
\nFood there and some heat
\nAnd as a very intelligent bird
\nLots of things to do
\nDiscovering what the human kind
\nLeave around, each clue<\/p>\n
Bottles boxes bags of stuff
\nOld books and a guitar
\nA thoroughly testing playground
\nFor this wild hearted tzar
\nSomewhere to come back to
\nA place he could call home
\nHe could bring a bird back to
\nA great big garden gnome<\/p>\n
Stood in one far corner
\nAnd decorations hung
\nClearly at one time YULE
\nWas thought about
\nAnd perhaps the younger
\nSouls who lived here
\nLoved the sparkly string
\nBut now the dust had settled
\nAnd the bells had lost their ring<\/p>\n
Creation and existence
\nAn undeniable fact
\nRavens have ability
\nAnd, how they react
\nThey are existensial beings
\nWith the power of prophecy
\nAmazing imitation skills
\nAnd insight constantly<\/p>\n
Well grounded and attested
\nAnd ofcourse the power of flight
\nAnd Linguistic displacement
\nShared with humans so a right
\nOf influence and tradition
\nThe wildness always there
\nAble to make their own decisions
\nWhilst up there in the air<\/p>\n
A lifespan of some twenty years
\nAnd curiosity
\nFortuitous and able to think things
\nThrough and see
\nThoughts to deeds with memory
\nAncestral knowledge built in
\nAnd used regularly<\/p>\n
Omnivorous the choice is theirs
\nThe season have become
\nAn awareness in their diary
\nA kind of rule of thumb
\nUnpredicatable behaviour
\nExcitable they be
\nInto lateral thinking
\nAnd randomness for free
\nReally individual and self taught
\nThrough and through
\nThe Raven may weigh two kilos
\nBut would shock you what it can do<\/p>\n
Thirty different sounds it makes
\nSo originality
\nIt can think outside of our box
\nRemember it is free
\nNo restraint no passport
\nNo flying licence he
\nCan up and go and be in the flow
\nUnlike you and me<\/p>\n
To get back to the attic
\nThe dusty old guitar
\nWith all its strings unbroken
\nInterested this young tzar
\nThe sounds were quite remarkable
\nThey were sounds that he could make
\nImitate the twanging
\nWhat more curious a trait<\/p>\n
Is that a true transcendance
\nFor dancing he did enjoy
\nHe made his own music
\nSo a really clever boy
\nAnd the garden gnome he had seen others
\nIn places around about
\nBut was unsure why they never moved
\nEven though they were out<\/p>\n
Hardly any enemies
\nPerhaps the owls who came
\nAnd stole an egg but they could break a leg
\nAnd fail to take the blame
\nRavens can be aggressive
\nAs we all can under stress
\nWhich their power of observation
\nCan seemingly redress
\nThe Most dire situations
\nAnd that is a good thing
\nClearly to this world out there
\nA magick they do bring <\/p>\n
They are kind of migrants
\nWho dwell on the outside
\nSquatters on the mortal plain
\nBut of course can live inside
\nIf they choose to like this attic
\nA kind of stowaway
\nBut never an invader
\nMore a traveller so to say<\/p>\n
The ability to fly into a city park
\nAnd sit
\nQuietly on a Hawthorn tree
\nAnd use their brand of wit
\nWith human beings on a wall
\nBelow what he now does
\nIs mimics the guitar sounds
\nWhich gives him quite a buzz<\/p>\n
And frightens the life out of humans
\nThats his ability
\nHe pays no rent and is gcontent
\nWith being always free<\/p>\n
Unlike his mates at Tower Hill
\nTheir wings clipped so they say
\nIts from some bygone story
\nThat if they flew away
\nLondon would be invaded
\nIt came from Charles the second
\nWho was then the king
\nWho didnt listen to his astrologer
\nAnd the ravens he did bring
\nReally into history
\nFor they have now been there
\nFor centuries fed every day
\nwith the finest English fayre<\/p>\n

\nAnd bird biscuits soaked in blood
\nThey are near the Wakefield Tower
\nAnd often see a flood
\nOf humans who come visit
