LAos land of a million Elephants
\nThats its name to fame
\nBut actually the numbers
\nDo not meet the claim
\nThere might be 1000 wild ones
\nAnd The 500 or so
\nUsed as working specimens
\nIts horrendous as we know
\nThey work at some locations
\nViolently like slaves
\nTugging timber day in day out
\nMany to their graves
\nIts terribly laborious
\nAnd does their feet and back
\nIn in just one season
\nIts like an attack<\/p>\n
Every 12 weeks they come back
\nTo rest a while and eat
\nTo have a hard earned rest a while
\nFor slaving in this heat
\nIs killing and life shortening
\n“Abassee slaves” they are called
\nAllowed to rest and put up their feet
\nAnd not feel overhauled<\/p>\n
This in itself is an investment
\nFor fhe elephants health alone
\nBut you can feel they do need respite
\nMore than most have known
\nThey come back shocked snd stifled
\nTheir feet an aching mess
\nWhatever injury they now suffer
\nThey just cannot redress

\nWhich the mahouts call
