The debacle that is Taiji
\nIts historicity
\nCompare it to the western lands
\nAnd the hypocrisy
\nThe metaphysical outcome
\nOf all of this may be
\nA lack of understanding
\nAnd intrinsicality<\/p>\n
The loss of face
\nTo the Japanese
\nIs gravity immense
\nTo the westerners
\nWhose slaughterhouses
\nReally are intense
\nBut hidden in the fabric
\nPeople know they are there
\nBut its all done behind closed doors
\nAnd many fail to share<\/p>\n
TAiji however is a whaling port
\nFrom long ago
\nFor them to slaughter in plain sight
\nWhere everyone did know
\nWas customary
\nIt happened
\nEven on the street
\nAnd now its done behind the tarps
\nIts a little more discreet<\/p>\n
We kill our cows and sheep and pigs
\nAnd lambs and their blood does flow
\nIt really is disaster for them
\nAs most vegans know
\nTaiji is killing dolphins
\nThose more audacious souls
\nWho leap into our psyche
\nAnd are killed off by the trolls<\/p>\n
Vegans are in both camps
\nOutside abattoirs
\nAnd as guardians around the cove
\nOf death we have the stars
\nOne such soul is Jessie
\nSea Shepherd’s infamous crew
\nThe pirates who chase whalers
\nAnd the NISSHIN MARU<\/p>\n
A lass who is the captain
\nOf cove guardians everywhere
\nShe gets in her kayak
\nAnd paddles she’s Aware
\nIt does get up the security’s nose
\nTo see her in the sea
\nDoing live feeds to the world
\nAnd, back to blighty<\/p>\n
She left Japan in September
\nTo go the Faroes Isles
\nWhere she was charged with a misdemeanour
\nDespite all her denials
\nGoing back to Japan to carry on
\nThe dolphin fight
\nThey stopped her entering
\nSadly, which I guess was their right<\/p>\n
She is now in a holding room
\nWaiting now to see
\nWhether they decide to let her
\nReturn to Taiji
\nAnd carry on the live feeds
\nWhich embarrass them a lot
\nLoss of face for the eastern people
\nReally it is what<\/p>\n
Upsets them it gets to them
\nIt really does unseat
\n“East is east and west is west
\nAnd neither the two shall meet”
\nHead on upon this battle ground
\nOf who is right and wrong
\nThey kill whales and dolphins
\nAnd we also belong<\/p>\n
To the killers of ‘many animals
\nThe cows the pigs the sheep
\nThe rabbits and all sorts of fish
\nWe sow and yes we reap
\nThey cannot get it in their heads
\nThey they are doing wrong
\nWhilst we are also killing
\nAnimals that do belong<\/p>\n
In life were they created
\nLesser souls than those
\nDolphins in the water
\nWhich is why we come to blows
\nI have not got an answer
\nSave to say the only way
\nWe can ever close the gap
\nIs be vegan and let that play<\/p>\n
Actually into the argument
\nOf why we should try and save
\nThe animals of the land and sea
\nFor our future is now grave
\nSea shepherd are the masters
\nThe mariners of old
\nThey are all vegan warriors
\nAnd command respect I am told<\/p>\n
On that idea of showing
\nThe japanese the way
\nGo back to Zen and the ancients
\nAs a way to save the day
\nLive feeds should be conducted outside
\nSlaughterhouses here
\nTry to shame purveyors
\nAnd make it very clear<\/p>\n
I fail to see how we can
\nGet on our high horse and be
\nAble to shame a race living by the sea
\nJEssie comes from Brighton
\nWhere fish restaurants abound
\nWe really have to try to understand
\nAnd try to sound<\/p>\n
Out the possiblities
\nOf toasting the divine
\nAnd changing how we go about this
\nNow right down the line
\nClearly by raising hackles
\nAnd shaming people we
\nWill not stop them killing
\nBut the opportunity
\nOf saying we must minimise
\nThese killings everywhere
\nMight work if we can prove to them
\nThat its because we care<\/p>\n
That we were wrong and are attempting
\nTo compromise and try
\nNot just pointing fingers
\nAnd shaming which is why
\nAnger is so evident
\nIn Japan and we
\ndespite live feeds and rancour
\nAchieve so little in Taiji<\/p>\n
My heart goes out to Jessie
\nIts my hope that she will be
\nAllowed the space finally to get back
\nTo Taiji
\nBut if she feels that she can carry on
\nthis inglorious fight
\nAnd expect the japanese to stop
\nWell it will not work al’right<\/p>\n
I commend her for her courage
\nBut ask her if she feels
\nThe need to push the vegan thing
\nAnd see if that reveals
\nA possibly softer attitude
\nWhich shines a brighter light
\nOn why we all should think
\nabout all the animals and their plight<\/p>\n
