The order of ecology
\nAnd its methodology
\nIts really how they do things
\nIn Iceland actually
\nEider ducks and horses
\nAre apparently their thing
\nAnd they don’t conform to what we call
\nFarming which does bring<\/p>\n
A duality of purpose
\nA timelessness in fact
\nThe horses and the ducks
\nThey do their own thing in a way
\nForage for their own food
\nThey do that from day to day<\/p>\n
The ducks are shown the types of food
\nAnd where it can be got
\nAnd led out as they are growing
\nAnd homing so a lot
\nAlthough perhaps they do go away
\nEach year they may return
\nAnd the horses are left to be wild
\nAnd obviously they learn<\/p>\n
But winter when its really cold
\nUp on the mountains they
\nThe owners go and fetch them
\nIt is a clever way
\nOf managing the animals
\nAnd letting them be free
\nFeral in so many ways
\nAnd cared for successfully<\/p>\n
I really like that idea
\nBecause the animals can choose
\nFor a lot of the time they are wild in fact
\nAnd seemingly don’t refuse
\nThe winter break with humans
\nAway from the ice and snow
\nWhere they can be looked after
\nTill in Spring again they go<\/p>\n
And its certainly keeps the animals strong
\nAnd able to get by
\nAnd the animals seem to like this
\nIts seems to underlie
\nThe unseasonableness of winter
\nAs intrusive as it can be
\nWhere with their foals they can be safe
\nAnd fed more regularly<\/p>\n
Homing ducks apparently remember to return
\nIts noted in their psyche
\nSomething they all must learn
\nA kind of trust from man to beast
\nThat is fluent and is right
\nA standing I suppose for them
