OSceola took a tumble
\nWhen a hunter thought that he
\nHad bagged this golden eagle
\nThe adventurer so free
\nThe bullet it went through a wing
\nAnd forced him from the sky
\nSpiralling down in agony
\nExpecting for to die<\/p>\n
Substantive and immortal
\nSubsisting as they do
\nThey are born with their Nirvana
\nFlying through the skies of blue
\nSoaring to the heavens
\nThrough our thermal streams
\nAnd katabatic up draughts
\nIn everybody’s dreams<\/p>\n
And so these wondrous wingspan
\nWith magic to behold
\nWould never again fly it seems
\nOn one wing who so bold
\nCould possibly imagine
\nWhat this would actually do
\nWhen an eagle just could never fly
\nBAck into the blue<\/p>\n
Enter one JOHN STOKES
\nWith the same birthday as me
\nJust a whole lot younger
\nBut as free as free could be
\nBirds of prey were his desire
\nTo fly was his need
\nBeing a hang glider he knew he could succeed
\nRehabilitation would be a long old thing
\nFor The eagle after surgery only had one wing
\nJOhn heard of Burke Ewing who took his dog
\nTo fly
\nAnd thought to make a harness
\nSo his eagle could get by
\nHe made, various prototypes
\nAnd finally he found
\none that really did work well
\nWhen they were off the ground
\nAnd so he took the eagle on his back
\nAnd they did fly
\nUp into the thermals
\nAnd out across the sky<\/p>\n
OSceola was happy when they flew
\nThe bird could see
\nI bet that brought back really
\nAll the memory
\nOf flying over mountains
\nOf soaring over trees
\nOf searching out his freedom
\nOn which his eyes could seize<\/p>\n
Of hunting for his eyesight
\nWas amazing to be sure
\nFlying in the silence
\nPerhaps forever more
\nJOhn gave this advantage
\nTo his friend the raptor who
\nFor 12 years flew together
\nUp into the blue<\/p>\n
