A lot of people just exist
\ntheir potentiality
\nHas taken quite a knock
\nAlas and their reality
\nThere really is no bedrock left
\nEverything you had is gone
\nAnd now the streets of London
\nIs where you live upon<\/p>\n
And it’s a really hostile place
\nWhere billions come and go
\nThe absence of a roof over your head
\nAnd nothing down below
\nJust a grey old wintery Sky
\nAnd pavements cold and bare
\nWhere many souls are negative
\nAnd lots more do not care<\/p>\n
To stay the course and get by
\nTakes a lot of inner guile
\nBegging don’t come easy
\nIt may not be your style
\nBusking well at least your are trying
\nTo entertain some folk
\nBut sitting on the pavement
\nIt’s not much of a joke<\/p>\n
And having a little friend with you
\nOf the canine clan
\nSo you are now responsible
\nThere has to be some plan
\nA guitar and a case and odds and ends
\nA mutual quest to be
\nGetting through each evening
\nBoth trying to see<\/p>\n
The light beyond the tunnel
\nAnd it’s a long long way
\nFrom one end to the other end
\nYou walk around all day
\nSmelling all that restaurant grub
\nAnd feeling sad and cold
\nThe longer you are out there
\nThe more invisible I am told<\/p>\n
Some will stop and listen
\nSome will just walk passed
\nSome will think to help out
\nBut some will walk so fast
\nThey don’t won’t to know you
\nThey don’t even care
\nThey think you are a scrounger
\nAnd They will never share
\nTheir coffee with you
\nOr some money
\nOr even a kind word
\nThey look pretty dapper
\nBut to them you are turd<\/p>\n
Littering the pavement
\nThey resent you you can feel
\nAnd they are best ignored of course
\nBecause you know how real
\nIt is your circumstances
\nHomeless on the street
\nWith a dog to share your love with
\nAnd aren’t his glasses sweet?<\/p>\n
It’s an unequal society
\nYou see it everyday
\nNo one wants to sit here on the pavement
\nAnd just pay
\nOut with all the sneering
\nAnd the vagaries of soul
\nAnd coppers are not much better
\nWith their reason to control<\/p>\n
There is some compensation
\nA lass might pass by and
\nDrop a fiver in your hat
\nAnd possibly might stand
\nAnd pass the time
\nAnd stroke the dog
\nAnd say
\nBut generally the populace
\nGo, on their sweet way<\/p>\n
there but for good fortune
\nEach of us could be
\nCut off from our loved ones
\nAnd lost unfortunately
\nIt happens to the best of us
\nWhen the down turn comes
\nBut out here in the winter
\nWhen the cold win numbs
\nEvery single part of you
\nThat’s when it gets you down
\nBeing homeless on a street
\nIn good old London Town<\/p>\n
And it all snowballs before you
\nWhen Of no fixed abode
\nNo one will employ you
\nWhen you live on the road
\nNobody can contact you
\nYou are missing in a way
\nLost and gone forever
\nAnd you will always pay<\/p>\n
Of course you have some memories
\nPerhaps a lass you knew
\nWhose probably forgotten
\nWhat you used to do
\nYou of course will not forget
\nThat smile those gestures she
\nShared when you were going out
\nHow you were then happy<\/p>\n
Now nobody loves you
\nNow no one does care
\nMost would wish you move on
\nJust get lost from there
\nYou have become a nuisance
\nThere is nothing more to say
\nSome would rather cross the road
\nThan give you time of day<\/p>\n
Eating out of dustbins
\nWhat others throw away
\nSustains the hound and you get around
\nIf this, is the way
\nYou actually can manage
\nThen possibly it’s good
\nThat is why they toss it in the bin
\nSo people could<\/p>\n
Sustain themselves
\nAnd that you do
\nAnd the fifteen or so quid
\nYou have got whilst entertaining
\nYou can shop the lid
\nIs off the struggle for each day
\nIs really what you do
