The Sabi sand game reserve

\nWith Lions that have roamed
\nAcross the reserve
\nIn the heat of the day
\nUnder drought conditions
\nAnd have started to pay<\/p>\n
A price for such stress
\nHas apparently seen
\nNotoedric mange
\nOn their bodies now lean
\nA parasite lives In the skin
\nOr the hair
\nIt’s a bit like a mite
\nAnd it burrows in there
\nCreating tunnels beneath the skin
\nWhere the mites begin feeding
\nAnd reproducing, a sin
\nOf a creature for it can
\nBurrow so deep
\nliving on skin cells
\nAnd lymph, all would weep
\nAt the pain and discomfort
\nAnd the loss of hair
\nAnd blood and bacteria
\nBuilds up in there<\/p>\n
Malnutrition can cause this
\nWeakening phase
\nPoor diet bad teeth
\nAll of this plays
\nInto the immune systems weakening so
\nAnd emaciation and dehydration
\nFollow<\/p>\n
There could be two reasons
\nOne is the rat
\nIf use is being made
\nOf anti coagulants at
\nA place it can cause
\nThis mange to occur
\nAnd if lions feed on carrion
\nWorms they can share
\nThe tape worm the round worm
\nAll weaken the soul
\nAnd make it more difficult
\nTo remain in control<\/p>\n

\nClearly not organic
\nBut it could stem
\nThe problem me thinks
\nIt has done so abroad
\nOn bob cats in California
\nAnd it did accord
\nThem with some sanity
\nAnd saved a few
\nThough rat infestations
\nAre worth looking at too<\/p>\n
Warfarin could cause this
\nHappening there
\nThe lions wouldn’t show it
\nBut there is despair
\nWithin them apparently
\nAnd it could be
\nAn answer to why
\nMange took hold actually<\/p>\n
The rains have set in
\nAnd hopefully they
\nWill make a difference
\nBut not right away
\nThey have lost much hair
\nWhich could point for me
\nThat bacteria has breached
\nTheir immunity
\nIf this is the case
\nThey will need veterinary care
\nI think spend some money
\nAt least be aware<\/p>\n
And check out the bob cat problems
\nIn California<\/p>\n
Encourage more Honey Badgers
\nWho are wonderful rat consumers
\nAnd ensure who ever uses anti coagulant rate treatments
\nThat they are kept well away from the Lions
