It could have done with a lick of paint
\nIt’s wheels were rusty red
\nThe cart was kind of broken
\nSlats missing he had said
\nBefore he needed to replace them
\nBut never got around
\nHis horse was kind of shaggy
\nSupposedly he had found<\/p>\n
This horse a bit unsightly
\nA kind of chestnut grey
\nWith a leather and silver bit
\nHe liked carrots everyday<\/p>\n
The day that I remember
\nHe had some sheets of lead
\nAn old sink
\nAnd a barrel
\nAnd a mattress off some bed
\n“Rag and bone his usual cry
\nAbove the traffic noise
\nBut local people heard him
\nAnd often girls and boys<\/p>\n
At weekends they would follow him
\nThe wheels they always squeaked
\nPepetuity was his sort of code
\nBut the old horse never freaked
\nOut, he just kept walking on
\nUp and down the hills
\nBits of jumble dusty tomes
\nAn old dress with some frills<\/p>\n
Old ted is what he called himself
\nWith locks of yellow hair
\nI remember he had sideburns
\nLike Wyatt Earp and flair
\nHis face seemed white I don’t know why
\nYou would think out in the air
\nHe would have got burnt up a bit
\nBut he didn’t seem to care<\/p>\n
HE’d unload his stuff and they’d pay him
\nAnd go back to his yard
\nI think he lived in an old barn
\nHis life must have been hard
\nHe didn’t shave and whether he even washed each day
\nHe ponged a bit of horse I seem to remember
\nAnd my mother used to say<\/p>\n
Have you been up upon Ted’s cart
\nNo I used to say
\nBut of course I had been on his cart
\nEvery Saturday
\nHe used to give me sixpence
\nFor helping him unload
\nSo what with getting all the rides
\nAnd sixpence too it showed<\/p>\n
me I could earn some money
\nmoney
\nI Could spend
\nAnd that is how I started work
\nWith Ted my dear old friend<\/p>\n
