Those massive grand old pachyderms
\nLand animals that grow
\nUpwards to the sky itself
\nYet they are shackled low
\nWe know how to torture
\nIn actuality
\nWe make them stand for hours on end
\nIs it their priority
\nIf it’s our festivity
\nAnd we make them carry loads
\nOf 400 kilos and be
\nStanding in the hot sun
\nGanesh what would he say
\nHe would say they don’t deserve

\nNot any single day<\/p>\n
Massive crowds and beating drums
\nIt’s scary you can know
\nThat behind the glitz and glamour
\nAnd the so called great big show
\nThere is torture there is ugliness
\nAnd stress beyond belief
\nWe discriminate against them
\nAnd truly give them grief<\/p>\n
There is no compensation
\nThey get no rest all day
\nThey really have their greatness
\nBut with their eminence they pay
\nThey are stupendous creatures
\nWith memories so long
\nBut for some reason the human being
\nThinks they do not belong<\/p>\n
In the favoured kingdom
\nWhere freedom comes to all
\nWith their life it’s conformity
\nChained up to a wall
\nThey just must acclimatise
\nAnd get on with it or they
\nAre beaten or their shackles tightened
\nCausing them dismay<\/p>\n
And with so much repetition
\nThe same thing every day
\nBoredom comes to all of them
\nThe monotony they say
\nIt’s a tenancy of torture
\nIn a semester of sin
\nThe antiquity of anguish
\nWith their patience wearing thin<\/p>\n
The suddenness of agony
\nFugitives they be
\nLocked up in the dullest place
\nFor all eternity
\nTheir power is overwhelming
\nThe violence though does play
\nInto their destruction
\nBy the order of each day<\/p>\n
The bull hooks all kept secret
\nUsed in the darkly place
\nCausing awful injuries
\nYou see it in their face
\nTears they are often crying
\nWhat else can one do
\nAlone and shackled Brutally
\nIn pain the whole night through<\/p>\n
Rubbing tears the leg to shreds
\nAnd ulcerates at will
\nA festering of the accursed
\nAnd the blood and pus will spill
\nIn silence maggots creep and crawl
\nThat is what they do
\nListen as the elephant cries
\nIt’s shrill and its piercing through<\/p>\n
They have great power to reason
\nAnd they are cognitive as well
\nTheir thought processes suffering
\nDriving them through hell
\nThrough vast seas of people
\nChanging drumming souls
\nThat frighten with their massive numbers
\nAnd their changing goals<\/p>\n
The great gods must be thinking
\nWhy Ganesh is treated so
\nA negligent proposal
\nWhen he is on show
\nThe drama of each moment
\nThe tragedy of time
\nThe tenacity to carry on
\nAnd suffer as they climb<\/p>\n
Up the hills and down the hills
\nWanting to drop and die
\nThe incompetence of mahouts
\nWho inadequately rely
\nOn the fitness and the powerhouse
\nThat is within them all
\nNot seeing the danger signals
