This was inevitable that it would happen
\nFor the negligence that surrounds
\nCyanide a black market poison
\nSo doing the rounds
\nIt’s fast acting and it’s deadly
\nIt’s quiet and very cheap
\nSalt licks water even oranges
\nThis enmity runs deep<\/p>\n
It’s used in making paper and making textiles
\nAnd mining gold
\nIt’s sold from mines illegally
\nThat’s what has been told
\nThe inventory control systems
\nAre lousy to be sure
\nAnd there is a lack of tracking
\nAnd people do ignore<\/p>\n
Poaching syndicates smuggle
\nThis stuff in and out
\nSome police have been implicated
\nand employees to in doubt
\nIt’s a really awful way to die
\nSo these poor souls would have known
\nThat something bad was going on
\nFor it hits you like s stone<\/p>\n
Psychopaths are heartless
\nThey manifest no care
\nThey put this stuff around the place
\nKnowing it will cause despair
\nAnd many many elephants
\nHave already been lost
\nAnd vultures and so many others
\nSuch a far ranging cost<\/p>\n
And the fear that is engendered
\nIt touches every one
\nIt terrorises everywhere
\nUnderneath the sun
\nIt’s a dastardly desertion
\nOf feeling and of care
\nTotally irresponsible
\nFor all life forms that are there<\/p>\n
This is a personal tragedy
\nFor those brave men and we know
\nTheir families it’s just terrible
\nAnd the fear and hatred grow
\nAfrica is losing its iconic angels to
\nA vile and grotesque element
\nWho don’t know what they do<\/p>\n
If they understood the results of this
\nAction everywhere
\nIt all becomes so ridiculous
\nThe comfort less despair
\nHow this poison ripples everywhere
\nKilling as it goes
\nThe ingloriousness of such an act
\nThe true cost grows and grows<\/p>\n
Let’s think of these victims who were cut down
\nBy rogues ignorantly part of the poaching scene
\nAnd reaching an evil that has now been the cause of 5 brave men losing their lives.<\/p>\n
Just heard this afternoon that the men have been found alive and well and the story was put out
\nBefore the truth was known that is good news<\/p>\n
But the poem was still useful in that I learned about how easy it is to move cyanide via the mining operations around Africa so not a complete waste of time
