{"id":29021,"date":"2016-08-19T23:40:37","date_gmt":"2016-08-19T23:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=29021"},"modified":"2016-08-20T11:40:09","modified_gmt":"2016-08-20T11:40:09","slug":"aleppo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2016\/08\/aleppo\/","title":{"rendered":"Aleppo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Where is the joy<br \/>\nYesterday I<br \/>\nLived to the full<br \/>\nI on a high<br \/>\nIn the old city<br \/>\nWhere dreams came to be<br \/>\nThe spirit of yester year<br \/>\nCame down on me<\/p>\n<p>Not far from the border<br \/>\nNo weirder sound<br \/>\nAll around me was rubble<br \/>\nIn it I was drowned<br \/>\nChoking,  just darkness<br \/>\nAnd screams everywhere<br \/>\nThe sky full of evil<br \/>\nAnd awful despair<\/p>\n<p>The ceiling came down on us<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s all I saw<br \/>\nMy poor mother lying<br \/>\nThere flat on the floor<br \/>\nBroken and twisted<br \/>\nOur life had become<br \/>\nLike one of my dolls<br \/>\nTorn and broken and numb<\/p>\n<p>I was dragged from the rubble<br \/>\nAnd put on a seat<br \/>\nCovered in blood<br \/>\nNot even a sheet<br \/>\nThe cameras  were rolling<br \/>\nThe West wants to see<br \/>\nUs victims all bleeding<br \/>\nAnd bleeding we be<\/p>\n<p>Shock and awe<br \/>\nWhat&#8217;s it for<br \/>\nAleppo my town<br \/>\nThe blare of the media<br \/>\nIt gets us down<br \/>\nAs the cameras roll<br \/>\nExpressionless I<br \/>\nAm a boy in the middle<br \/>\nWondering why<\/p>\n<p>My brother is broken<br \/>\nMy father is still<br \/>\nOur home is no more<br \/>\nAll I feel is a chill<br \/>\nI have little to say<br \/>\nWhat did I do<br \/>\nWas I Wrong to be born<br \/>\nI suppose that is true<\/p>\n<p>Politicians all over<br \/>\nThreaten to use<br \/>\nTheir great big deterrent<br \/>\nTo kill and abuse<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s the power in their arm<br \/>\nAnd their weakness of heart<br \/>\nTheir soulless expression<br \/>\nAnd that&#8217;s where they start<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a boy and the joy that I had<br \/>\nIs all gone<br \/>\nIn the old city<br \/>\nI now sit upon<br \/>\nAn ambulance seat<br \/>\nWiping blood from my eyes<br \/>\nHearing crashes<br \/>\nAnd bangs<br \/>\nAnd now it applies<\/p>\n<p>To me I&#8217;m in pain<br \/>\nMy parents may be<br \/>\nAre lost In The rubble<br \/>\nAnd will Never be free<br \/>\njust a flash and the ceiling<br \/>\nFell in on us all<br \/>\nI heard my mum scream<br \/>\nAnd I saw my dad fall<\/p>\n<p>When you see me your tears<br \/>\nWill not help me at all<br \/>\nCan you bring back my mummy<br \/>\nAs my daddy did fall<br \/>\nHe was trying to fetch<br \/>\nMe<br \/>\nTrying to save<br \/>\nAnd our broken home<br \/>\nMay now be his grave<\/p>\n<p>We are just people<br \/>\nWho did you no wrong<br \/>\nWe are not politicians<br \/>\nWe did belong<br \/>\nIn Aleppo alive breathing<br \/>\nThe same air<br \/>\nWe are no different to<br \/>\nYou we should share<\/p>\n<p>This planet together<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how we felt<br \/>\nAnd now in the rubble<br \/>\nOur cards have been dealt<br \/>\nOur home that we loved so<br \/>\nIs broken and smashed<br \/>\nThe mother I loved so<br \/>\nThe old door has bashed<br \/>\nI am a lost boy<br \/>\nIn a world that&#8217;s lost hope<br \/>\nAnd opening my eyes<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t think I can cope<\/p>\n<p>I have grit in my mouth<br \/>\nAnd I can&#8217;t really see<br \/>\nMy brother I think is in the seat next to me<br \/>\nHe seems very quiet its unlike him to be<br \/>\nWe were all eating<br \/>\nAnd mum had made tea<\/p>\n<p>Tonight in your safe havens<br \/>\nFar far away<br \/>\nSpare a thought for us children<br \/>\nHaving to pay<br \/>\nBecause you want to fight<br \/>\nYou want to be<br \/>\nControlling the world<br \/>\nAnd all its energy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where is the joy Yesterday I Lived to the full I on a high In the old city Where dreams came to be The spirit of yester year Came down on me Not far from the border No weirder sound &hellip;
