{"id":28827,"date":"2016-08-08T17:34:53","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T17:34:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/?p=28827"},"modified":"2016-08-08T17:44:59","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T17:44:59","slug":"glan-y-wern-and-beyond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cooksdelight.co.uk\/blog\/2016\/08\/glan-y-wern-and-beyond\/","title":{"rendered":"GLAN y WERN and beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Looking for sites and standing stones<br \/>\nWe took a path and drove<br \/>\nSlowly upwards through fierce wind<br \/>\nTowards our treasure trove<\/p>\n<p>Clearly in our hearts and minds<br \/>\nWhere dry stone walls exist<br \/>\nRuins of ancient cottages<br \/>\nNot on any list<\/p>\n<p>A winding narrow road of sorts<br \/>\nDripping with Mountain Dew<br \/>\nAnd lots of dotted sheep boys<br \/>\nGrazing up there too<\/p>\n<p>Grass clover and thistle<br \/>\nGet a hammering every day<br \/>\nYou have to be real hardy<br \/>\nApparently they say<\/p>\n<p>and the sheep are really loving it<br \/>\nRight out across the bay<br \/>\nThe sea the surf the drama<br \/>\nand the estuary Away<\/p>\n<p>It moves you just to look at it<br \/>\nWhere the air is clean and free<br \/>\nThe view up there was wonderful<br \/>\nIt was the place to be<\/p>\n<p>And you couldn&#8217;t find a better place<br \/>\nTo observe from let me say<br \/>\nDespite the wind and the narrow track<br \/>\nThe view across the bay<\/p>\n<p>And out into oblivion<br \/>\nand beyond into the sky<br \/>\nGot this old mans heart pumping just seeing it all<br \/>\nWhich Was why<\/p>\n<p>The valley of the Dwyrydun Snowdonia by name<br \/>\nThe sky was getting darker the wind now it just came<br \/>\nCrashing down the mountain side and was rocking my car<br \/>\nMy friends were looking for the stones<br \/>\nI could see them from afar<\/p>\n<p>Away beyond the tussocks<br \/>\nthe swampy grassy land<br \/>\nThe rocks the scree the cliffs they be<br \/>\nTrying to understand<\/p>\n<p>The wildness of this mountainside<br \/>\nAnd at the end we found<br \/>\nA big house with a conservatory<br \/>\nA big gate and all around<\/p>\n<p>Was unbelievable landscape<br \/>\nAnd of course the sea below<br \/>\nIt seemed alone and vulnerable<br \/>\nGod fearing men would know<\/p>\n<p>SNowdonia is beautiful<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s rugged to the core<br \/>\nAnd not another human<br \/>\nJust nature in the raw<\/p>\n<p>Evidence of humans<br \/>\nFences and barbed wire<br \/>\nA barn or two but nothing else<br \/>\nJust walking to perspire<\/p>\n<p>To test the flagging  muscles<br \/>\nThe lungs the chest and will<br \/>\nAnd not get lost or pay the cost<br \/>\nOf experiencing the thrill<\/p>\n<p>I was on the grassy track<br \/>\nRocking too and fro<br \/>\nAs they were trudging back to me<br \/>\nClearly they did know<\/p>\n<p>I would be there waiting<br \/>\nWith their shoes and socks wet through<br \/>\nFrom finding out below the grass<br \/>\nWas more than Mountain Dew<\/p>\n<p>Raging little torrents<br \/>\nPoured down cold as could be<br \/>\nAnd walls of slate were to be climbed<br \/>\nWith so much for the eyes to see<\/p>\n<p>NOrth Wales is truly beautiful<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s glorious refrain<br \/>\nFar reaching and far flying<br \/>\nThis wonderful domain<\/p>\n<p>Where mainly sheep were grazing<br \/>\nPerched on slopes were they<br \/>\nHardly ever frightened<br \/>\nThat they could be blown away<\/p>\n<p>The wind blew with a vengeance<br \/>\nAnd within the hour<br \/>\nMy friends came back<br \/>\nAll shattered and wet<br \/>\nTheir loss of power<\/p>\n<p>Evident they had gone far<br \/>\nJust dots all I could see<br \/>\nBut they were glad to get back<br \/>\nTo the warm car and to me<\/p>\n<p>Got the motor going<br \/>\nWith the heater on their feet<br \/>\nAnd slowly drove back to the road<br \/>\nThe mist trying to beat<\/p>\n<p>It comes down like a blanket<br \/>\nAnd up there it would be<br \/>\nDifficult  to say the least<br \/>\nManoeuvrability<\/p>\n<p>Would have been quite dicey<br \/>\nBut we were all alright<br \/>\nGot back to CAT at 720<br \/>\nAnd it still was light<\/p>\n<p>It had been an adventure<br \/>\nWalking all that way<br \/>\nTired shins and tired muscles<br \/>\nCould be felt the next day<\/p>\n<p>I was in the car it&#8217;s true<br \/>\nDidn&#8217;t walk much me<br \/>\nNo matter I was on my sticks<br \/>\nReally in sympathy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looking for sites and standing stones We took a path and drove Slowly upwards through fierce wind Towards our treasure trove Clearly in our hearts and minds Where dry stone walls exist Ruins of ancient cottages Not on any list &hellip;
