Life on the road is one hell of a struggle
\nFor us human beings no matter how
\nNomadic you are its travelling people
\nThat seem to be able to work with it now
\nNo fixed abode living out of some trailer
\nWeather permitting there’s difficulties
\nGetting fresh water and food has its problems
\nThe Romany life for most doesn’t please<\/p>\n
Introducing wild animals then there are problems
\nCaged up on trailers all over the place
\nNo adequate exercise and as to the training
\nOften abuses are just a disgrace
\nContraptions to force bears to stand on their hind legs
\nChained to a wall if they falter and fall
\nThey hang themselves literally high on the chain
\nThat’s when they really experience pain
\nSuzhou in China represents those
\nCircuses training up bears I suppose
\nAnd wild Lions and monkeys all suffering so
\nBeaten and bruised but all part of the show<\/p>\n
It’s not just in China it’s just anywhere
\nExpecting wild animals really to share
\nThis nomadic life style and learn tricks as well
\nFor them it is honestly criminal hell
\nIt’s a challenge to live in a trailer at all
\nWith foul spoken travellers just high on gall
\nAll the worst intentions spitefully made
\nTheir rancour and malice their stock in trade<\/p>\n
It’s all very hurtful oppressively so
\nStarved and dehydrated that much we know
\nAnd all of the anger the frenzy they feel
\nTestiness petulance prickly for real
\nThey feel the loathing the aversion the pain
\nThey know they are unwelcome it just is a bane
\nOn their lives moving weekly to another town
\nThe big top goes up and the big top comes down<\/p>\n
They really miss friendship and family goodwill
\nThough they be submissive their blood they still spill
\nThat whip comes across if they make a mistake
\nReminding them how many hours they must ache
\nFear is the keyword it’s what drives them on
\nThey just feel so hopeless life is one con
\nLeg pulling banter derision all day
\nGetting up early and working away<\/p>\n
Feeling sick on the road feel hot feeling bad
\nAnd nobody caring that really is sad
\nNo water to cool you and standing all day
\nAs the trailer is swerving down the highway
\nA lifetime of this makes it long makes it hard
\nAlways on edge always on guard
\nExpecting a thrashing expecting to feel
\nThe pang of the bull hook that again will reveal<\/p>\n
Blood and such soreness and maybe tonight
\nYou have to perform in that bloody spotlight
\nThey will paint off the bruises so the punters won’t see
\nAnd despite its tenderness you have to be
\nStrong no complaints must not shake not at all
\nDespite your fatigue you must answer their call
\nThere will be nothing soothing just a kick or a smack
\nAnd no way of sorting the pain in your back<\/p>\n
When there’s not many in under lights it gets hot
\nThe same old music no one likes a lot
\nThe whip comes across and stings you until
\nYou cry deep inside when you have had your fill
\nUNctuously hoping the time moves a long
\nAnd do what you have to till the final song
\nRelief comes in small parcels here on the stage
\nThe artless confusion is so hard to gauge<\/p>\n
Back on the chain pushed here and there
\nYou just want to sleep but no one’s aware
\nOf your penchant for sleeping
\nCan’t they leave me alone
\nLet me lean here a moment
\nJust where I was thrown
\nLimiting factors that chains runs me raw
\nAnd nobody loves me no not anymore<\/p>\n
If we could escape just run away
\nHide in the forest on any day
\nI think death is favourable just close our eyes
\nAll of the hardship I now realise
\nThis is our Nemesis defiantly so
\nOpen the shutter and just let us go
\nWe can run in the road limp off somewhere
\nAnd lay down and die no one knowing we are there<\/p>\n
That would be wonderful just wild again
\nA real prescription simple and plain
\nThe smell of the forest the damp of the ground
\nWith other wild souls clearly around
\nJust reminiscing of the family times when
\nAs children we played in the front of the den
\nRedemption seemed possible hopefully so
