The poppies danced a Summer Solstice ballet
\nmesmerising Chipping Norton, they
\nthe crimson of their petals in the greyness of the morning
\non what turned out to be a dull old day
\nrain was threatened almost every moment
\nand so the Summer Solstice came to be
\nand who turned up with cameras and microphones
\nthe charming folk all the way from Dutch TV<\/p>\n
clearly none of them had seen such rituals
\ntwo of them joined in and we could see
\nthey both enjoyed the experience and said so
\nit makes you kind of emotional you see<\/p>\n
Peace wished for the regions
\nand the portals opened wide
\nwe all held hands just strangers
\nit cannot be denied
\nour myriad thoughts a plenty
\nof who knows somewhere new
\njust forming a connection
\nthat percolates on through<\/p>\n
a blessing to the food and drink
\nan offering to all
\nrespectful of the ancestors
\nthat by now were on call
\nwe each partook of apricots
\nand felt the heat of mead
\nthat warmed the tongue
\nand tasted sweet and took its chance to lead<\/p>\n
us far away from mundaneness
\ninto a world now where
\nstrangers came together
\nand their feelings they did share
\na poem from the bard about the solstice
\nthen took hold
\nand then of course the speaking stick
\nwhere people shy or bold
\ntook up their own sweet mantle
\nand introduced or told
\na story or a poem
\ncharting their ounce of gold<\/p>\n
the circle is a medium
\nits a passionate display
\nits anything to everyone
\nwho cares to walk this way
\nto undergo the spirit change
\nwith an impact that can be
\nexhilarating sometimes
\nbordering on the free<\/p>\n
the stones historic beauty
\ntheir kingliness their strength
\nthey face the might of all the seasons
\nthrough the entire length
\nthey circle whilst providing the ultimate degree
\nof wonder torn a’sunder and delightful mystery<\/p>\n
the quarters closed the HO HO HO
\nthe heavens even they
\ncould hear the flight of all our breaths
\nthat gushed from us today
\nwe were as one with strangers
\ndruid orders who
\ncame to join our circle
\nas many folk now do<\/p>\n
the Cotswold Order dedicates the time
\nthat all can share
\nit really is auspicious
\njust stand and be aware
\nbe part of something wonderful
\na simple band of souls
\nwhose involvement and emotion
\nbrings its special goals<\/p>\n
the ritual was over
\nwe all filed out and we
\ncould feel the rain a spattering
\nit had held off fortunately
\nthe sad deterioration
\nof the weather that we see
\nit really makes us feel forlorn
\nwhy now that it be<\/p>\n
in need of improvement
\nfor light we really need
\nthe illuminant must come to bear
\nfor some now to succeed
\nits intensity and brilliance
\nbrings its share of power
\nsucks us into whiteness
\nand holds us on the hour<\/p>\n
drifting off the shadows
\nas we move away
\ngo back to our chosen lives
\nat the end of each day
\nI guess each coming together
\nunlocks its own reform
\ncreates in us true starlight
\nand we just all warm<\/p>\n
to the softness to the sweet repose
\nfor these ancient stones they be
\nlaced with every kind of thought
\nand so much energy
\nhere we can just float away
\non what is clear bright light
\nthe summer solstice over
\nthe stillness of the night
\ncomes gently to our mindfulness
\nbehold the circle where
\ntoday we all held hands and dreamed
