The Hellenic trench
\n5000 metres
\nIt sinks to such depths
\nThe Meditteranean sea
\nAnd there where the steep slopes
\nJust fall away
\nThats where you might just find me
\nI am so heavy a mild sort of grey
\nI tend to whistle and click
\nEvery day
\nI love giant squid
\nThey are a favourite of mine
\nAbout 1000 kilos a day
\nFeels divine<\/p>\n
I am pretty big
\nScary some say
\nAnd where some have baleen
\nI have teeth
\nSo away you go
\nMr Diver
\nDon’t fuck with me
\nBecause if I have my young ones
\nWith me in the sea<\/p>\n
I don’t want
\nYour camera
\nStuck in her face
\nI don’t want our pictures
\nAll over the place
\nWe are quite secretive
\nAbout what we do
\nAnd would prefer our company
\nNever you<\/p>\n
We do get caught up
\nIn drift nets sometimes
\nI think you catch swordfish
\nMore of your crimes
\nYes, we are gigantic
\nHumbling souls
\nAnd we like a conflab
\nDeciding our roles<\/p>\n
As to the Monks
\nThe rarest of seals
\nWe click a bit
\nBut what that reveals
\nIs were are the phantoms
\nWe are now rare<\/p>\n
Living in caves
\nWhich sometimes we share
\nWe are pretty shy
\nOur last refuge is where
\nThe wind likes to blow hard
\nAlmost everywhere
\nThat is in Greece
\nWhere the octopus ply
\nWe do like those tentacles
\nIf they roll by<\/p>\n
These days all our fish
\nHave been stolen by you
\nThe national of Europe
\nThey see now to do
\nHorrors eat most of our
\nFresher of fair
\nWhat was once so idyllic
\nCould now be anywhere<\/p>\n
But not here in Greece
\nOn the great craggy coast
\nHumans have stolen
\nThe fish we love most
\nWe really are suffering
\nSome more years like this
\nAnd Monk Seals will have had it
