\nWhale watching excursions
\nThe good ship Sanctuary
\nAnd assortment of beings
\nA lady skipper
\nWent out to the sea<\/p>\n
And suddenly through the waves
\nTall black fins scything
\nFlesh and blood lifting
\nThe priority
\nA realness a vastness
\nOut there on the sea<\/p>\n
A mutual attraction
\nAdverseness so relevant
\nA great grey whale
\nWith its baby close in
\nRunning the gauntlet
\nTaking a short cut
\nOver the canyon
\nA mountainous trail<\/p>\n
A journey so far
\nOff to Antarctica
\nA weakened grey whale
\nHad just given birth
\nAnd it was discovered
\nPlayed out there before them
\nA drama of life and death
\nWith so much worth<\/p>\n
The beings were families
\nMothers and daughters
\nFathers and sons
\nAll eager to see
\nBut soon realising what was being enacted
\nWas a life and death struggle
\nWhich really was key<\/p>\n
Two pods of Orca’s were
\nHunting these creatures
\nAdapting their strategy
\nBefore the watchers eyes
\nThey wanted the baby
\nThey wanted the mother
\nFor them it was really an amazing prize<\/p>\n
The pods of Orca’s were extended families
\nLots of young children
\nRaring to go
\nBeing taught how to
\nHunting and being
\nMindful of consequence
\nLearning to flow<\/p>\n
The whale with her baby
\nKnew of their danger
\nSurvival essential
\nWith tactics maybe
\nBut the Orca’s were with it
\nAnd they were teaching
\nThey were the denizens of the salt sea<\/p>\n
A mountain was mother
\nThirty tons possibly
\nDwarfing the boat and the beings
\nAlone
\nThe baby was big they grow
\nLike the clappers
\nFed on mothers milk
\nAnd they weight many stone<\/p>\n
The enormousness of what was
\nFrantically obvious
\nWould death play out here
\nHow would it end
\nClearly the Orcas were
\nAfter the baby
\nWorking together hoping to send<\/p>\n
The pain and the suffering
\nThrough the great blubber
\nNow soaring before them
\nAnd hopeful she could
\nNot only save herself but her sweet baby
\nBut from the boat watching
\nIt didn’t look good<\/p>\n
By now several boats were around
\nThe debacle
\nTurmoil within and a frantic refrain
\nThe noble were at it
\nThe people were watching
\nBlood in the water
\nIt became insane<\/p>\n
Morbid the drama
\nPlaying out solidly
\nA momentous occasion
\nEmphatically so
\nBy this time the children
\nWere upset and crying
\nAnd some had stopped filming
\nAs the drama did grow<\/p>\n
It was unprecedented
\nTwo pods of Orca’s
\nA grey whale and calf
\nFighting these killer whales
\nAn ensemble of majesty
\nOf wild wolves attacking
\nOf true solidarity
\nThat seldom fails<\/p>\n
Two hours had passed
\nThere was blood in the water
\nTwo sets of animals locked in a fight
\nClearly to death with their children
\nBeside them
\nA thorough going over
\nIt looked wrong but it was right<\/p>\n
Survival and struggle
\nThe strong and the weak
\nMethodical planning
\nEach sequel they saw
\nTail lobbing drawing fresh air
\nAll was there
\nAscending and diving
\nAll clearly aware<\/p>\n
Time waits for no one
\nThe clock clearly ticking
\nSoon it was three hours
\nAnd the struggle went on
\nOut numbered but huge size
\nProtecting her baby
\nThe shock and the awe there
\nWas playing upon<\/p>\n
The strength of the mother
\nAn unconscionable period
\nThe stress in her heart
\nClearly all took its toll
\nBut she was so durable
\nAnd clearly wanting
\nAs were The Orca’s and their
\nTeaching role<\/p>\n
Mire terrible thrashing
\nMore absolute bashing
\nInternal injuries clearly were there
\nSudden and violent the many collisions
\nThe revulsion was clearly
\nDrawing despair<\/p>\n
The first boat still watching
\nDecided to go home
\nSo many children were upset and tired
\nIt was open and shut now
\nThe baby was crying
\nWhat could the mother do
\nClearly hard wired<\/p>\n
More blood in the water
\nMore black fins a cutting
\nThe waves and the froth
\nAnd the frenzy below
\nThe impending disaster
\nPlaying out before them
\nForeshadowing everything
\nThis great sad show<\/p>\n
The power of the mighty
\nAgainst the great knowledge
\nThe vigour the force the hardness
\nPossessed
\nAnd the great stamina and all the stiffening
\nAll were red blooded
\nAnd equally stressed<\/p>\n
But it showed great violence
\nOutbursts and outbreaks
\nSuch a commotion
\nBarbarity rule
\nTroublous and stirring
\nMolten and whirring
\nClearly emotions were
\nFelt by them all<\/p>\n
And there was a nearness
\nReality calling
\nThe pendulum swinging
\nThe mother now weak
\nThe fire and the spirit
\nBeing so bombarded
\nAnd wanting to seek<\/p>\n
Trying to move to shallower waters
\nOrca’s prefer deeper water
\nOf course
\nThe mother was able to get close
\nTo her baby
\nFight off their challenge
\nSomehow to force<\/p>\n
Close to 5 hours such a battle
\nWas out there
\nLong lived and surviving the great whale
\nDid turnHer life force was evident
\nShe had saved her baby
\nThere had been a shambles
\nPerhaps a sad tale<\/p>\n
To weigh long in the minds
\nOf the mother and baby
\nWho sailed into water
\nCalmer and less
\nAbout 60 feet deep
\nThis gave an advantage
\nAnd after the battle
\nAnd the terrible stress<\/p>\n
They escaped they were safe
\nThe Orca’s lost interest
\nThe depth of the water had something to do
\nWith the outcome which shows us
\nAgainst all expectation
\nA mother and baby was saved
\nIt was true<\/p>\n
They would hug closer in
\nand go off to the cold climes
\nOf course baleen whales
\nup against killers who
\nHave many sharp teeth
\nbut despite that were stronger
\nMass matters and clearly
\nthis battle was true<\/p>\n
They would sing all their way
\nTo the great ice caps calling
\nSending their light into darkness for sure
\nThe Orca’s would no doubt
\nHave learned a great deal
\nAnd the next time their prey
