In India the majestic souls
\nAre tortured beyond belief
\nLousy owners angry mahouts
\nThey just get no relief
\nFrom anger and frustration
\nMetered out each day
\nTemples are no place for the wild
\nElephants some say<\/p>\n
And those that say this are the few
\nWho care for animals, they
\nKnow the gentle giant
\nIs suffering more each day
\nNo circus zoo or temple
\nShould ever house these souls
\nIn chains around all of their feet
\nFor whats seen as controls<\/p>\n
These animals are tortured every single day
\nTheir injuries are covered up
\nIt is the temples way
\nOf getting out of trouble
\nBy covering each
\nwound
\nWith damask and with cotton shrouds
\nThese wild souls are marooned<\/p>\n
A temple is no paradise
\nIts a torture chamber where
\nThe silent scream cannot be heard
\nBut of course its always there
\nMahouts that strike to injure
\nOwners who underfeed
\nAdmirers who fail to notice
\nThose elephants who bleed<\/p>\n
Some get gradually angry and break
\nThey truly do
\nThey might be in these heavy chains
\nBut they can hurt folk too
\nAnd these poor souls feel the ankush
\nIt tears into their hide
\nAnd many a elephant goes to sleep
\nCrying deep inside<\/p>\n
They stand for hours in hot and humid
\nClimes that do them harm
\nThey have abscesses and poisoned woundsAnd ailments
\nAnd no balm or cream or medication
\nTo ease the pain they feel
\nThey have cataracts and they cannot see
\nAnd their skin it does reveal
\nDermatitis worms and bugs and bites
\nAnd sun burn too
\nThese elephants are suffering
\nTheir cruelty all through<\/p>\n
We have no dominion over them
\nThey are gentle souls in fact
\nBeaten and chained and awfully strained
\nSometimes they react
\nBadly on processions injuring those who
\nAre riding on their backs on leading them
\nA threat not new<\/p>\n
The silent scream is everywhere
\nLook deeply in their eyes
\nYou can feel their agony
\nThese great souls they are wise
\nThey cry their souls are aching
\nThe frustration of it all
\nAnd temple life is threateningly awful
\nFor they do call<\/p>\n
Out to all and sundry
\nBut few around will see
\nBecause its a religious place
\nThe government cant be
\nAround them as it would be say in circuses or zoos
\nSo the elephants are suffering
\nAnd as I say they lose<\/p>\n
It sometimes and go wild again
\nFrustrated to hell
\nHaving to suffer all that noise
\nSomething they don’t do well
\nOn top of it they are beatenWith
\nThe ankush which does hurt
\nThe damage to the skin is vast
\nAnd then of course the dirt<\/p>\n
Infections then are painful
\nAnd no veterinary care
\nAnd so of course it gets worse and worse
\nNot even a prayer
\nIs said for any elephant
\nThey suffer day and night
\nStanding on their painful legs
\nWhich just cannot be right<\/p>\n
Every temple elephant neglected
\nYou can say
\nThey are kept on short chains
\nEvery single day
\nThey cannot sit they cannot lie
\nThey cannot wash they cannot die
\nAll they do is hour after hour
\nSuffer so and lose their power<\/p>\n
And there is no guilt
\nIn these hindu places
\nYet the transgression on their faces
\nThe mahouts really are wicked too
\nAnd there is nothing the elephants now can do
\nBut run amok and end up dead
\nThere is no conscience
\nAnd that being said<\/p>\n
Elephants suffer day after day
\nNight after night
\nIn every way
\nThese temple people many are wrong
\nThey are worthless souls
\nAnd all along
\nTheir roguery and rascality
\nGoes unattended physically<\/p>\n
There is no respect not any more
\nNo adoration just one big flaw
\nHumiliation and a true outrage
\nAnd torment and torture off the page
\nThe incompetent are all about
\nMeritless in so much doubt
\nAnd then the rotten through and through
\nWho are spiteful to them in
\nWhat they do
\nHumanity has lost its sense of right
\nSympathy is out of sight
\nThere are few guardian angels left
\nThese temples really so bereft<\/p>\n
Of caring souls they are all but gone
\nThe altruistic that once stood upon
\nThe roadside really loyal and true
\nAre tragically now very few<\/p>\n
The elephants lot is very poor
\nAnd the public seemingly ignore
\nThey don’t notice the limping
\nAnd tears of woe
\nThe blood on the road
\nThey don’t want to know
\nAnimal rights and the temple scene
\nIs less and less they are all more mean
\nIts ostentation that does conceal
\nThe afflictions that latterly they reveal<\/p>\n

\nAre suffering the vile despAir
\nAnd all the elephants imprisoned there
\nAre suffering through lack of care
\nSilent cries and blood shot eyes
\nWounds and abscesses tell the wise
\nWe must stop this we must all
\nSave the elephants and hear their call
\nThe silent scream is everywhere
\nPlease everybody be aware
\nListen and you just might feel
