A silver backed Gorilla
\nWas shot the other day
\nA little boy got into
\nA place
\nCrawled in all that way
\nAnd fell into the enclosure
\nIts parents unaware
\nThe gorilla never harmed the boy
\nBut was shot to death
\nThe affair<\/p>\n
Has caused a deal of speculation
\nAs to whether it was right
\nTo kill a male gorilla
\nTo shoot him down on sight<\/p>\n
The decision looks into the psyche
\nAnd reminds us of KOKO
\nThe female that learned sign language
\nAnd clearly was in the know
\nShe became a soul of wisdom
\nHer intelligence has shown
\nThe closeness to our species
\nMuch more than was ever known<\/p>\n
Only 2 per cent different
\nBetween our DNA
\nSame blood types as us humans
\nAnd equivalent hair they say
\nThey are enchanting creatures
\nTheir intellect is high
\nReactions clearly thought about
\nWhich is really why<\/p>\n
The male they shot and killed
\nIn America last week
\nShowed no real signs of harming
\nBut because it couldn’t speak
\nThere was no way of knowing
\nIts intentions, so
\nA shot rang out a gorilla slumped
\nForwards as we all know<\/p>\n
How the boy got down into
\nThe enclosure it will be
\nThe Subject one of negligence
\nBut it was extraordinary
\nWhere was the little boys parent
\nHow did he come to crawl
\nSo many unanswered questions
\nUntil, he did fall<\/p>\n
Down into the gorillas moat
\nAnd the drama then began
\nWhen the zoo decided to kill the gorilla
\nAnother life down the pan
\nThe ignorance of childhood
\nAnd of the parent too
\nAnd the arrogance of zookeepers
\nTo think they know what to do
\nWere they right or were they wrong
\nIts difficult to say
\nBut probably they will be mulling it over
\nUntil judgement day<\/p>\n
