The absurdity of expecting an Elephant
\nTo drag
\nTimber tree trunks up a steep incline
\nI watch them flag
\nDrawing in deep draughts of air
\nAnd pulling for all they are worth
\nSliding on the muddy bank backwards
\nThrough the earth<\/p>\n
Clearly this enormous effort
\nIts front legs turned in to
\nPrevent it sliding backwards
\nAs gravity wants it to
\nReaching to the very top
\nIt lets out a tremendous sigh
\nThen has to drag them down the road
\nIts enough to make you cry
\nThis is just slave labour
\nWith such a heavy load<\/p>\n
Its muscles clearly seizing up
\nLactic acid pain
\nThe weight of two long timbers
\nThat he has to drag again
\nThis time down the winding road
\nProbably to town
\nSlowly and laboriously
\nIts really getting him down<\/p>\n
The traffic doesn’t help him
\nAnd the sun is bursting through
\nAnd nobody gives him water
\nThey just expect him too
\nPull his blooming guts out
\nSo the man can make some cash
\nAnd forget of course to feed him
\nExcept perhaps for trash<\/p>\n
Its heart breaking to watch him
\nThe exertion its too much
\nBeing fair is one thing
\nBut this guy is out of touch
\nWith reality as most blokes are
\nWhen giving work to do
\nAnd this elephant is not a lazy soul
\nI promise you<\/p>\n
Elephants they suffer so
\nAt the hands of man
\nThey could crush him with one run
\nAnd life would go down the pan
\nBut they remain quite stalwart and impatient
\nWith their lot
\nSo what we do is take advantage
\nIll treat them and expect
\nThem to go on forever
\nUnfed and unchecked<\/p>\n
It knocks years off of them sadly
\nWe are a rotten lot
\nWe need to learn to just be fair
\nWatching them go to pot
\nFeeling for them and caring
\nWould be a good idea
\nLetting them rest between stints
\nBut nobody will hear<\/p>\n
