She is suddenly there before your eyes
\nHer steep cone rising high
\nWith lots of mud flow prints to see
\nAncient eruptions lie
\nStill steaming at this moment
\nA giant in repose
\nShe is south of Quito
\nBut on certain times she shows
\nHer lovely face I see her
\nFrom my apartment window high
\nEspecially in the morning
\nWhen the clouds are high<\/p>\n
There she sits atop the Andes
\nGlowing almost she
\nHolds my eyes and spirit
\nFor close by I like to be
\nNearer to Latacunga
\nThats north east from here
\nShe is an active strato volcano
\nAnd through the clouds its clear<\/p>\n
Her eruptions are spectacular
\nAnd dangerous to be sure
\nAround her base green valleys
\nThat our eyes cannot ignore
\nIts because all year irrigation
\nThe Chota Valley too
\nIn the land of locust trees and cacti
\nIt is true<\/p>\n
Some really amazing specimens
\nAnd prickly pears as well
\nAnd below those picture terraces
\nSugar cane they sell<\/p>\n
Lots and lots of sugar
\nAnd alfalfa too
\nAnd lots of different vegetables
\nThe soil there good and true
\nFull of deep earth minerals
\nAnd the melting snow
\nAnd the sun that springs to life
\nEverywhere you go<\/p>\n
Its really such a wonder
\nAs it climbs into the sky
\nAnd smiles at me in Quito
\nWhich in fact is why<\/p>\n
I use to get up early
\nAnd watch the mountain glow
\nThe sun upon the snowy cone
\nit is beautiful, you know
\nEverything about it
\nIts stands there so serene
\nA really majestic mountain
\nBounded by the green<\/p>\n
And hundreds of tiny sparkling falls
\nPour down from its height
\nPicking up the sun of course
\nAnd glowing in the light
\nLike so many multi coloured prisms
\nEverywhere
\nI was so fascinated to methat she and I
\nWere there.<\/p>\n
Its very very fertile
\nVegetables grow fast
\nThe Quichua are the wizards
\nOf course their die is cast
\nThey know the land they farm on
\nThey know its frantic ways
\nHow cold it gets at eventide
\nAnd how warm during the days<\/p>\n
Late afternoon can see her
\nIn a gold cloak for us all,
\nShe is playing with our eyes somewhat
\nWith the sky and the light on call
\nShe is everything to everyone
\nBut a special gal for me
\nShe is dangerous that is obvious
