Its was Winter<\/a>, it was snowing
\nour cave, draughty and cold
\nOutside a little warmer
\nAs Lone, well kind of rolled
\nin the snow<\/a> he loved that
\nBut of course his fur got wet
\nWith ice that froze
\nupon him
\nAnd really didn’t let
\nHim feel as comfortable
\nAnd the wind relentlessly
\nBlew us almost off that rock
\nso much uncertainty
\nWe decided that together
\nwe’d skirt across the crags
\nand back into the forest
\nWhere the pines waved
\nlike huge flags
\nIt had been real hard going
\nTill we reached the forest dark
\nWith such deep snow
\nIt gets very slow
\nBut now we thought we’d park
\nOurselves out of the cutting
\nwind in a glade of Bracken where
\nWe sheltered and dried off a bit
\nand watch out for traps placed there
\nIn forests such as this one
\nthe trappers set them and
\nmany an animal meets its end
\ncrushed by a thin steel band
\nand there they lay and pass away
\nin abject agony
\nthese human souls have no controls
\nthey trap us mercilessly<\/p>\n

We carefully walked along the path
\nand out into the snow
\ndown the great<\/a> escarpment
\nonto the ledge below
\nthe wind had dropped I’m pleased to say
\nAnd in sight the reservation
\nWhere Lakota Jo and White Cloud lived
\nAnd some of the greatest Nation<\/p>\n

That ever walked on God’s green land
\nOr hunted far and wide
\nBoth of them were kind to us
\nand very soon inside
\nThe teepee of Lakota Jo
\nand some meat beside his fire
\nWe lay there in the moonlight
\nour spirits drifting higher
\nKnowing we would be,
\nsafe<\/a>
\nFor respect was all around
\nand served to be the key
\nThat kept us kind of allies
\nBoth wild souls who ran
\nThe gauntlet of the so called
\nNew American<\/p>\n

As soon as they broke through
\nonto our lands, the will was there
\nTo depose us of authority
\nThey were not about to share
\nThey were thieves our loss of habitat
\nWas of their making, they
\nAlso treated the wild men
\nalmost the same way
\nSo the wolf and the Lakota
\nwere friends at least the two
\nOf us were friends both sensing
\nwhat each of us could do<\/p>\n

As the eagle rose into the sky
\nand the foxes left their lair
\nWe decided we would both go home
\nWe’d been fed and watered,
\nwhere
\naffection, and respect was shared
\nmeat and a great wood fire
\na hint of smoke that can sometimes choke
\nWhen the various winds conspire<\/p>\n

Back up the escarpment across the rocky
\ncrags,
\ninto the fields of freezing snow
\nClearly we had bags
\nof time left before Dawn awoke
\nand raised the trappers sight
\nwe were back inside our draughty cave
\nBefore the morning’s light
\nfed into the trappers eyes
\nand sold them on the need
\nTo get up and go out to find
\nthe vanquished who might bleed<\/p>\n

We wolves despise the trappers
\ncowards who set such things
\nthat kill or maim our brethren
\nwith cruelty that flings
\nOpen the door where Satan enjoys
\na morning thought
\nIn the blood and snot of the innocent
\nThis a vile blood sport.<\/p>\n
