Sambo had a sad life
\nCaught before the war
\nAnd put to work to earn
\nHis food and lodging
\nAnd whats more
\nFound that life much harder
\nThe pounding their feet get
\nCarrying tourists everywhere
\nReally there is no let
\nUp in all the extreme heat
\nThe severity is there
\nDay in day out
\nMorning till night
\nIn the windless air<\/p>\n
The adversity is obvious
\nSuffering is long
\nIts really bleak and wearisome
\nIt matters not how strong
\nLack of food and water
\nAnd with muscles old and tired
\nIn really hostile conditions
\nAnd all the time being hired
\nTo walk the laborious journeys
\nBetween temples which can be
\nFar away from each other
\nIts a monstrous misery<\/p>\n
In 2012 poor Sambo was suffering a lot
\nAnd funding was made available
\nFor a sabbatical and he got
\nTo be retired in the mountains
\nFor he could not work anymore
\n30 years of stress and strain
\nHad ruined him for sure<\/p>\n
But then alas funding ran out
\nAnd his owner said that he
\nCouldn’t afford to feed him he must work again
\nAnd be
\nCarrying tourists who didn’t feel
\nThat they could walk around
\nPay their pittance and Work the elephants
\nReally into the ground<\/p>\n
And that is what has happened
\nTwo tourists felt the need
\nTo see two separate temples
\nAnd of course that did lead
\nTo a long trek in extreme heat
\nAnd Sambo’s heart gave out
\nEverybody knew it would
\nBut his body they did flout<\/p>\n
Tourists have to realise
\nIts the purest cruelty
\nElephants are not buses
\nThey share the misery
\nOf trekking in the hot sun
\nCarrying their weight
\nAnd with very little water
\nOf course it slows their gait<\/p>\n
There are another 13 elephants
\nWho Still are working there
\nSuffering as Sambo was
\nWe know it isn’t fair
\nAngkor Wat Cambodia
\nMust realise that they
\nKilled that poor old elephant
\nBecause his heart gave out they say<\/p>\n
The likes of Western Tourist companies
\nShould be made to check their tours
\nWhere it involves this cruelty
\nThey will not get our applause
\nFor offering any packages
\nIncluding animals who
\nAre abused in this vile manner
\nWhatever else they do<\/p>\n
This poor soul must have suffered
\nTerribly to be
\nForced to have a heart attack
\nA way just to be free
\nOf man unkind the monster
\nWho sacrifices sense
\nFor money in his pocket
\nFor that was his defence<\/p>\n
Thud and tramp and thud and tramp
\nOver the dusty street
\nEvery step a marathon
\nClearly the old soul beat
\nFeeling hot and bothered
\nA blood rush and some more
\nAnd then just falling on his knees
\nTo not get up anymore<\/p>\n
We are a really ugly bunch
\nInsensitive and unkind
\nAll we think is about ourselves
\nTo another we are blind
\nThose tourists must have realised
\nTheir fat arses in tow
\nWell karma will be waiting
