Despite the enormous privilege
\nThat creation had bestowed
\nUpon this amazing planet
\nA very dangerous road
\nOut of man’s convoluted and inappropriate desire
\nComes extinction quite untimely
\nAnd a situation dire<\/p>\n
As to their authenticity
\nThe Zoo’s they lost the plot
\nThey probably never had it
\nPissing in their pot
\nThey forgot the sea’s had greater depth
\nAnd wildness was the way
\nPutting souls in prisons
\nLed to their decay<\/p>\n
That isn’t rocket science
\nInconsistencies were there
\nEquivalence of standards
\nNobody would share
\nThey basically were businesses
\nCorporate affairs
\nThere to make a profit
\nAnd inflate their shares<\/p>\n
Earthlings we are earthlings
\nAll of us must be
\nReady to extend our hand
\nAcross the bright blue sea
\nStop this selfish hunting
\nStop this poaching realm
\nStop these murdering pastimes
\nWith evil at the helm<\/p>\n
They all have played a bad hand
\nThe reason was that they
\nDidn’t observe those animals
\nIn fact they made them pay
\nThey readily stole their habitat
\nAnd caged them and we know
\nMillions have died before their time
\nAll part of the show<\/p>\n
The pachyderms have suffered
\nTerrible injury
\nCruelty beyond belief
\nDespite their supremacy
\nAbuse was seen as nothing
\nOur understanding poor
\nIt was all about the balance sheet
\nAnd the margins were what for
\nThey were run by city slickers
\nWith no empathy
\nIf stock died then you bought new stock
\nFor them that was the key<\/p>\n
Seeing the wild animals in enclosures
\nIn a zoo
\nDidn’t make people conservationists
\nNobody knew
\nThe plight the utter torture
\nThat went on behind closed doors
\nIt was all about admission
\nAnd getting the applause<\/p>\n
The Zoo in Copenhagen split the atom they
\nRiled the animals rights brigades
\nAnd the media held sway
\nMurdering a young Giraffe
\nAnd then making a display
\nOf dissecting the baby
\nAn area that felt grey
\nThen feed the joints to hungry lions
\nWhich all the zoo’s were doing
\nBut only Copenhagen made it known
\nSo what was brewing?<\/p>\n
Ahead of all that carnage
\nWas clearly zoo’s were lying
\nThey were culling as they say
\nI prefer to use the word to murder
\nAnd the day
\nHas clearly come around
\nAnd more and more young animals do
\nGet shot to death behind closed doors
\nIn almost every zoo<\/p>\n
But when Copenhagen announced it
\nSocial media sprang
\nWe heard volcanic vehemence
\nAnd all shared a profound pang
\nOf agony and misery
\nFor what we deemed was wrong
\nAnd Copenhagen was censured
\nFor announcing all along<\/p>\n
Many of the zoo’s about
\nWere put there long ago
\nBefore they had had experience
\nMost just didn’t know
\nHow the animals managed
\nHow the animals coped
\nAnd the suffering they put up with
\nMany appear doped<\/p>\n
Education of the public
\nWas it science based
\nIt was more a commercial undertaking
\nGiving us a taste
\nElephants were suffering
\nTheir legs and feet in pain
\nArthritis and unbelievable soreness
\nThe concrete was insane<\/p>\n
They did not study the animals
\nThey really didn’t care
\nThey fed them on all sorts of rubbish
\nThat happened to be there
\nThe elephants grew very fat
\nAnd lost their will to give
\nInstead of eighty years on earth
\n19 they just might live<\/p>\n
Working camps in Thailand
\nSaw animals in their prime
\nHaving to pull great logs about
\nBut their life span it did climb
\nUp to about 40 years
\nSo the zoo’s were clearly wrong
\nAnd the animals were suffering
\nAbuses all along<\/p>\n
It really makes no sense at all
\nWild animals should be
\nIn their various habitats
\nFree to roam and see
\nTheir lives ahead in that vein
\nNot forced into some cage
\nAnd fed on so much refined food
\nSo very hard to gauge<\/p>\n
The killer whales and cetaceans
\nThat swam a 100 miles or more
\nEvery day stuck in a tank
\nIt reached down to their core
\nSo intelligent and needy
\nTo the wildness of the sea
\nAnd to just be made to do silly tricks
\nAnd in a bath tub be<\/p>\n
Of course being so unnatural
\nA habitat where fools
\nTalk up the orca’s joyfulness
\nIn chlorinated pools
\nGoing absolutely mad
\nIn a lifeless way
\nAnd fed on frozen herring
\nAnd prozac so they say<\/p>\n
Its arrogance and Sea World
\nHas so much of it, they
\nThink about their profit
\nAnd making more each day
\nIts enshrined in the boardroom
\nThats what they have to do
\nIs get the people buying tickets
\nAnd buying shamu<\/p>\n
Its a wretched spiritless journey
\nFrom the wilds of real creation
\nTo the concrete hell that does just spell
\nAny kind of relation
\nThese are social animals
\nWith a language and a need
\nAnd to enslave them in a chlorinated pool
\nAnd make them bleed<\/p>\n
Inside themselves the terror
\nIts written on their face
\nTheir total disengagement
\nFrom the human race
\nUnattached and lonely
\nRadiating pain
\nRaked out of existence
\nWe have broken their chain<\/p>\n
Science it looks forward
\nBut we should look back in time
\nBefore we got this arrogant
\nAnd really tried to climb
\nUp into the heavens
\nImagining we were gods
\nWe could do creation
\nUs, a bunch of sods!<\/p>\n
Hunting killing shooting
\nTrapping little souls
\nFor fur for actual trophies
\nWe had the controls
\nLead shot in our rifles
\nShot just everywhere
\nPicked up by the vultures by the eagles
\nAnd despair
\nBy the Condors we could see them
\nTheir massive wing spans high
\nSoaring in the thermals
\nAcross the azure sky<\/p>\n
But dying in the valleys
\nAs they ate their carrion dry
\nAnd died of the lead poisoning
\nAnd no time to ask why
\nThe so called conservationists
\nThe bloody hunters they
\nWere thinking of their money
\nAnd buying lead, to say
\nIts cheaper than the tungsten
\nIts cheaper than the steel
\nAnd we don’t care a monkeys
\nThat is how we feel<\/p>\n
China should be made to pay
\nThe criminality of murdering the Rhino’s
\nIts them they have to be
\nCharged with all this chaos
\nNow so few around
\nThe Northern white theres just 5 left
\nThat now has been found<\/p>\n
It may come down to stem cells
\nTo frankenstein for he
\nWill probably bring the poor souls back
\nFrom extinction tragically
\nAs for the trophy hunters and the poachers
\nStill around
\nThey should be strung up in the bush
\nAnd in their own blood drowned<\/p>\n
Many lives have vanished
\nAnimals and man
\nTo imagine in the future
\nThat the wild lands that began
\nThe process of real living
\nWill all be totally fracked away
\nDrill heads logged out forests
\nAnd yet more true decay<\/p>\n
And the animals left living
\nAll brought back from the dead
\nThe white coats with their egg brains
\nWho serve up total dread
\nBy that time the population
\nWill have been culled down a lot
\nThere will be robot armies
\nBut you and me will not<\/p>\n
Even be remembered so the animal earthlings
\nWill
\nPossibly still be bred to eat
\nAnd us too they will kill<\/p>\n
Nobody will remember the beautiful planet
\nEarth
\nWith all its myriad wonder
