Tongues of jagged limestone
\nReach into the sky
\nTear the heart out of anyone
\nWho dares to see how high
\nTossed out of an ancient bed
\nWhose fingers cut and thrust
\nSum and substance climb immortal
\nGrounded in pure trust<\/p>\n
The blades exist to stump those
\nWho wouldst find a way
\nOf skirting over their stalwart hips
\nSuch violence set to pay
\nA considerable identity
\nA symbolic token to
\nAn inherited characteristic
\nIts perspective clearly true<\/p>\n
Few men would dare to scale them
\nCrowned lemurs do and they
\nHave thick pads on their feet and can
\nSkip and jump and play
\nLike fakirs they are fleet of foot
\nAnd the scything swords they test
\nCreate a wall of monolithic proportions
\nAnd at best
\nOnly the lemurs manage
\nThe monotony of being
\nDrilled and dressed incised and blessed
\nAnd truthfully all seeing<\/p>\n
In this distant corner
\nNorthern Madagascar’s reach
\nTantalising offerings
\nRise and fall and breach
\nEvery traditional viewpoint
\nFor here the lost world be
\nAnd it opens its heart and makes a start
\nAnd what do we presently see<\/p>\n
The hooked toothed killers
\nQuietly and serenely rule
\nSixteen foot of muscle
\nHow the hell they haul
\nSuch an ancient set of bones
\nThrough the muddy world
\n100 or so human beings
\nTaken and just hurled
\nBlindly cracked and broken
\nInto reptile stew
\nThe great Nile Crocodile is here
\nWaiting perhaps for you<\/p>\n
His mightiness his eminence
\nHis unconscionable attitude
\nIndiscriminate and all embracing
\nThis thumping rattling dude
\nHas dragged his immeasurable history
\nThrough aeons to be here
\nA monster from the jurassic
\nWhose signal is true fear<\/p>\n
Under the jagged spirals
\nThe conicals of doom
\nRun subterranean structures
\nCavernous in the gloom
\nAnd through the darkness there
\nAre bats whose flight of fear
\nHang above the silent water
\nAnd the crocodiles are here<\/p>\n
Adapting to the circumstance
\nAway from sunlight where
\nYou would expect to find them
\nNot in the darkness there
\nWhere shrimp and blind souls utter
\nIn vast armies lie
\nFeeding on the sweetness
\nThat clearly does belie<\/p>\n
Our knowledge of existence
\nTheir adaptability
\nYou wouldn’t expect to find them here
\nEmbracing all we see
\nBut here they are and they seem to stay
\nWater fed and calmed each day
\nAn ensemble ready to partake
\nOf bulging brim full wholesome cake<\/p>\n
They walked with the Dinosaur
\nAnd fought no doubt a private war
\nWith scaly dragons of a size
\nWhose patience came as no surprise
\nPervading all so thoroughly
\nCreatures of maturity
\nThey began and they may end
\nThe provenance that they now defend<\/p>\n
So many lemurs leap and play
\nAround the treetops every day
\nSo fleet of foot too and fro
\nTo escape the Fossa whose in the know
\nWho can climb like fury
\nWhose bite is strong
\nCan eat what he catches
\nAnd is seldom wrong<\/p>\n
Unique animals exist here
\nThe eye eye lemur
\nBut he looks queer
\nHairy big ears like a bat
\nAnd a bony finger
\nFor he is at<\/p>\n
The nocturnal fair
\nHe knocks and listens
\nAnd uses his finger
\nThe eye eye glistens
\nUp in the tree tops
\nHe can hear
\nThe creep and crawl
\nOf the grubs who fear<\/p>\n
His guile and majestic
\nHunting heart
\nHe has been hunted
\nHimself apart
\nfrom the eye eye
\nA procession do
\nLeap all over this island too<\/p>\n
Lemurs they only exist here
\nMany species and its clear
\nThey came from AFRica across the way
\nTo settle and clearly to try and stay
\nWhere loggers ravage and forests die
\nThe wild souls perish under the sky
\nLemurs are suffering that is for sure
\nAs the forests come down now more and more<\/p>\n
Consumption of lemurs who come into the caves
\nTo drink its the bio photons that saves
\nThe crocodiles perhaps its true
\nThey get their light from source they do
\nThose who live in the canopy exchange
\nTheir light when they are free
\nAnd if eaten by the crocodile
\nThis really tends to reconcile
\nThe loss of sunlight from those who
\nWho Prefer the caves than the light all through<\/p>\n
Madagascar a island where
\nIn the Indian Ocean animals share
\nA paradise and a lost world
\nLemurs and fossa’s all were hurled
\nNow the Nile Croc’s are also there
\nAnd the Baobab trees however rare
\nThe loggers too man is no friend
\nTo the environment shared and soon
