The pachyderms show fortitude and courage
\nIn temples their nirvana clearly feels
\nVacant and symbolic unfounded and just pointless
\nTheir patience and their solace soon reveals
\nAnd outwardness and opportunity
\nTo kick the life out of the friendly trainer
\nWho beats him with his stick incessantly<\/p>\n
His feet are sore already from just standing
\nTo feel the wrath and whipping cane as well
\nJust to move him in the right direction
\nIn doing this he sends the soul to hell
\nAnd this a so called holy man of letters
\nMeditation every might and day
\nBut when he gets the chance to beat an elephant
\nHe thrashes at him with such vile dismay<\/p>\n
See the pachyderms squirm and reel in agony
\nFeel the elephants breath and see his pain
\nHolding back he lets the trainer do it
\nAnd the trainer beats the elephant again
\nThe temple carved and special stands behind us
\nWith all its gold leaf shining in the sun
\nA gorgeous tree of such a green as heaven
\nThe bird song in our ears can clearly stun
\nAn aching heart and soulful mood those great big eyes
\nThe pachyderm his term is at an end
\nThese beatings are prolific there’s blood now to be seen
\nWhen All the elephant wanted was a friend<\/p>\n
The holy men are lost souls in the wilderness of time
\nThey pray to gods they do know know
\nWhen from their beds they climb
\nImagining the obvious and caring for the few
\nThere is no true priority in actually what they do
\nThe morning wash is charged up with the immediacy of grief
\nAs the trainer loses everything even his belief
\nWhatever the poor elephant does he is wrong in every way
\nBeaten about the ankles clearly in dismay
\nThe senselessness is obvious
\nThe amentia is not rare
\nThe elephants in the temple
\nThey all live in despair<\/p>\n
Disillusioned by it all
\nDisgruntled and ill served
\nUnprepared and disappointed
\nAnd generally unnerved
\nIts kind of cloak and dagger
\nThe abbot may not know
\nTruthfully his mendacity
\nIts caught up in his glow<\/p>\n
The deception of each moment
\nThe guile in which he finds
\nA tongue in cheek withdrawal
\nOne of the sickest minds
\nAround to hurt a giant
\nWho could break you clean in two
\nBut who you bash and torture
