Existence was a priority
\nA speciality
\nUnder the sun
\nWhere the wild ones run
\nImmortal essentially<\/p>\n
The road was long and dusty
\nA figment a pipe dream
\nThe men of straw were running
\nIn their sights the cream
\nOf the crop of the wild felines
\nThe lion its golden mane
\nIts ancestry forever
\nAbout to be a gain<\/p>\n
Guns firing every which way
\nFifteen thousand bucks
\nA noble soul falls forward
\nThe whole damn business sucks
\nStrikingly and blatantly
\nThe King no longer sees
\nWretchedly and distressingly
\nCollapses on his knees<\/p>\n
One shot clearly did it
\nThis amazing beast was gone
\nIts supremacy so shattered
\nIts command now upon
\nThe earth the scrub around about
\nSurpassed all others he
\nTook the bullet through the heart
\nAnd was no longer free<\/p>\n
Eyes wide open seeing little
\nHead down in the dust
\nThe light was gone forever
\nThe fragility of trust
\nThe precarious existence
\nAs brittle as could be
\nReally in the point of time
\nIt happened instantaneously<\/p>\n
The hunters were beside themselves
\nLeaping in the air
\nHugging kissing each others ears
\nThe explosion they did share
\nIt all appeared as timely
\nAn auspicious to a tee
\nPersistent and obsessive
\nContinuity<\/p>\n
The great beast lay still warming
\nDig a mound and place its head
\nFirmly on that mound of earth
\nThe trophy there instead
\nIts canines bared and powerful
\nIts death smile underlies
\nThe canned hunt not a blind stunt
\nWhen a brutal killer dies<\/p>\n
The adjective so beautiful
\nIs shared by one and all
\nUnseeing of the living soul
\nIts the corpse that now they call
\nBy such great terms I ask you
\nIn death the Lion became
\nA creature if such beauty
\nThat hearts it did inflame<\/p>\n
This was an assassination
\nAnd invasion of good sense
\nThey came to do the dirty
\nAnd of course it all was tense
\nThe slaying was so easy
\nIt was murder at first light
\nThe husbandry of hatred
\nIt didn’t put up a fight<\/p>\n
how could it was preordained
\nA hunting fee was paid
\nA guarantee was published
\nThat was their stock in trade
\nThe adversity and the agony
\nThe anguish and the pain
\nWas bought the Lion was caught
\nUp in the fucking human chain<\/p>\n
It leaves me cold to witness
\nThe stridor of it all
\nThe wheeze the choke
\nThe grunt that broke
\nThe silence of its fall
\nThe discord the cacophony
\nOf death the tuneless muse
\nI wish I could have changed the course
\nSo the hunter man would lose<\/p>\n
His life perhaps the lion as well
\nBut see him stark and lost
\nBloodied by an enormous paw
\nThat his arrogance had cost
\nHim his life that would have been
\nJustifiably
\nMore balanced in the scheme of things
