We are standing in the clothes
\nWe brought
\nEverything is gone
\nNot even a change of socks
\nAnd nothing to put on
\nThe rain is cold and logically
\nWe know
\nWe left Syria reeling
\nHaving no place to go<\/p>\n
Once we had identities
\nBut now we have nothing
\nOnce we had a life to live
\nBut now the birds don’t sing
\nNot anymore or if thy do
\nWe just cannot hear
\nWe are now just refugees
\nLiving in your fear<\/p>\n
We know discrimination
\nWe feel it everyday
\nMy parents both had good jobs
\nBut since we came away
\nWe have become just beggars
\nSome spit at us and say
\nWe don’t want you in our town
\nThat is what they say<\/p>\n
Your war planes came and bombed us
\nWe have no where to go
\nMany people died at home
\nThe injuries did grow
\nOur home was shelled and broken
\nAll we had was burned
\nAll we worked so hard to get
\nTragically they turned<\/p>\n
Into fire and rubble
\nThat was all we had
\nAnd so we left the town we loved
\nAlthough it made us sad
\nAnd walked and rode and walked again
\nHopeful we could find
\nSomewhere we could bed down
\nAnd just rest our mind<\/p>\n
We got to Greece and there we were
\nIn a camp of sorts
\nA torn tent and some dirty towels
\nAnd of course our thoughts
\nWe heard they might just let us through
\nYou now how news does grow
\nAnd so we went to the razor wire
\nTo just join in the flow<\/p>\n
The police came they were shouting
\nIt frightened us to hear
\nAlready we were homeless
\nAlready in some fear
\nCold and feeling desperate
\nFeeling helpless and unsure
\nAnd then they used the stun grenades
\nWhich shook us to our core<\/p>\n
We stood there with children
\nWondering what to do
\nWas this now the end game
\nWould we die here it felt true
\nWe might all stand and perish
\nAnd nobody would know
\nThen they tossed the tear gas
\nAnd then the pain did grow<\/p>\n
Tension flared and people
\nTried to push through the razor wire
\nThe injuries were nasty
\nOur future appears dire
\nWith countries closing borders
\nWe have no place to go
\nWe know nobody loves us
\nAnd they do not want to know<\/p>\n
We were in the wrong place
\nAt the wrong time, clearly we
\nReally lost all our worldly goods
\nAnd still have eyes to see
\nWhat is the growing menace
\nThe disorder everywhere
\nThe displacement of so many
\nAnd of course the dark despair<\/p>\n
Coughing and some vomiting
\nSickened by the gas
\nThe repetitiveness of being
\nIn our own morass
\nAll of us in The same boat
\nSuffering so much
\nHuddling close together
\nBut now so out of touch<\/p>\n
Are we to stay here wondering
\nWhether we can go
\nWhere some might soon offer us
\nOr say they do not want to know
\nSuggest we go back home
\nTo bombed out cities and be done
\nTo trek back into Syria
